OBD2 Port Lock?

I'm thinking about adding another layer of protection to my car.
How effective are these OBD2 locks?
Wondering how easy they can be drilled out and removed.
Any recommendations as to a good quality OBD2 lock?
A friend recommended that I cover the VIN number between the dash and the windshield.
Can thieves actually run our VINs to get the code for our key fobs?
I know nothing is 100 percent. Just trying to make it tougher for these losers to steal my car.
Thanks in advance.

Don't get the plastic OBD locks off Amazon. I've ordered several of them (I get them free in exchange for reviews), and every single one of them has yanked right off without much effort. (Strangely enough, they're nice & tight on my Ford Edge, and don't yank off on that car.) I haven't tried the metal OBD port lock from Genos Garage but others have had good luck with it. Personally, I ordered an OBD port off Amazon and put it in place of my working port - but it's not connected to anything. Thieves are looking for a quick target and aren't likely to stick around to troubleshoot it.

You could pop the odb2 port out of it's spot pretty easily and just tuck it up with some zip ties.

That might be more effective than a cover for it.

Could also remove it to get at the wires behind, cut the data line and put a little micro switch across the cut wire, and leave it switched off. Put the port back. Odb2 kill switch for a couple bucks.

Could also just put a little clear sticker on the drivers side window that says 'odb2 port is disabled'. Probably effective and save your window.

Cheap options if you're worried. I've never had a theft problem where i live or work so i've not done any of the above, myself.

There's also a fuse box in the trunk where you can put a kill switch on the ecm ignition f57 that seems ideal, and just make it a habit when exiting the car to pop the trunk and flip the switch.

Have you verified that this works without any issues?

Tons of threads on this forum that mention Ravelco. Here's one of them.

I got a plastic 3d printed one off Amazon, I agree, that it can get yanked off if someone really rips at it. The goal, though, is just to slow them down. If they actually get the door open and can see it, then yea, it would be easy to tear off. But if they break your window, and are reaching down trying to plug into it, it can be effective. At the end of the day, if someone really wants your car they are just going to tow it away (that's how they roll in Detroit at least). I am just trying to keep the opportunists away.

But yea, if people are making better ones, get it. I already got plastic so I am sticking with it for my $9 or whatever. It stumped the service lady at the dealership - so I know it works at some level! She was like "Where is teh OBD port?" when I brought my car in a couple weeks ago.

No. But what issue do you think would happen? Worst case is you use the fuel pump fuse there instead. That has been done by others.

Cheap lock on your real OBDII, no.

Cheap lock on a dummy/decoy port, yes.

If they mangle it and when it doesn't work, they'll be inclined to think they damaged it.

The wiring between a LT/SS and a ZL1 regarding the fuel pumps is different. What works for the LT/SS will not work on the ZL1.

While we are on the theft subject, a bit rough but I would put sharps things (razor blades, barb wire, needles etc) around the horn electric connectors. LOL!
