Caliper Torque Specs confusion

Page 181 on my owners manual says that the Caliper should be tightened to 148 FT Lbs

That is way off from most of the videos and local shop that say 111 ft lbs

and then the internet at
For the 2023 Camaro ZL1, the brake caliper mounting bolts should be tightened to 40 N·m (30 lb ft) + an additional 90 degrees of turn

What is everyone thoughts on this?

what do you tighten your calipers at?

148 ft lbs seems like a lot

My manual has J6M 111ft lb and 15-30 degrees. J55 is also 111/15-30. I just did mine and I ended up buying a tap 14x2 to clean up the threads because the bolts wanted to cross thread half way in. So 148 is probably about right for end value.

either spec will hold the caliper on. the thread locker will keep it from backing off. in my opinion the 111 will be less likely to start trying to pull the threads out of the knuckle over time or several brake jobs later. but me personally i just hit them with and impact and put the wheel on. ive never had a brake bolt try and back off and ive never had a customer come back because their caliper has come loose.

In my manual all the specs for 6 piston brembos, BCD, J6M and J6H all call for 111 ft lbs and 15-30 degrees. Blue loctite they are not going anywhere. I also remember reading somewhere, it might be in the manual not to use an impact on aluminum calipers.

Red loctite. High temp is what GM specs. Equilvalent to the GM part # is Permatex 27200. If you look at Permatex's info on the breakway torque of their blue, red and red high temp, the 27200 red high temp is only slightly more breakaway torque than the blue.

I always wondered about breakdown temp for loctite. If you add heat the loctite will release and that's usually how you want to remove the fasteners. But brakes get hot naturally, i dont think they get hot enough to hit the full breakdown temp of red loctite. But is there a partial breakdown temp? Where its hasn't fully released but it has compromised the bond?

I bought new OEM bolts and they came with orange not red. GM part number in my manual is 89021297 for brake caliper bolt threadlocker.

I agree, 89021297 is the # per the service manual. The Permatex crosses to GM #12345493 which was superseded by 89021297. Some caliper bolts have yellow threadlocker apllied. I wouldn't take the part's applied color as some sort of basis. The supplier is using something that meets GM's spec.
