Sorry to hear OP having to go through this, my car had the same failure before I owned it around 10k miles. They also only replaced the 8 on the failed bank.

No lifter issues since and right over 36k miles.
Good to hear!! Hoping for the same......I read the thread on AFM disabler not too long ago too....sure sounds really tempting at this point....

Zero chance that dealer will deactivate AFM, if they even can.

Just buy a Range device and be done with it.

Get a Range AFM Disabler, plugs into the OBD-II port and prevents the engine from going into V4 mode, won't void the warranty because once you unplug it they can't tell it was ever plugged in...

This is nothing new TBH. I put off buying this car knowing these AFM/Dod problems existed but did it anyway. Now we have other issues arising but on topic of the lifters. I bought my car with 2400miles on it and had the range device plugged in very soon after. Figured it would at least decrease the chances of a lifter issue. So far so good at 14k and 2 years later.

That's really good news Don't forget the advice on the Range device, these lifters (or the ones the dealership left in) can also fail.

It would be very nice of you to change the misleading thread title by editing your initial post; again, this has nothing to do with the L87 bottom end manufacturing issue.

I do believe though that our engines should have been recalled as well since the bottom end of the LT1, L86 and I’m pretty sure the L87 are all the same exact parts. There has been a ton of SS 1LE failures in the Facebook group. There’s no way I’m keeping my car out of warranty.
That 0w20 isn't helping those L87's. Funny how the bottom end issues started when GM started recommending that weight oil instead of 5w30 or 0w40.

I doubt you are going to have any issues with your engine either way. Just change the oil frequently and use something thicker than water. I don't care what they say about cold start protection it's bullshit. They just want the oil and engine to get up to temp faster for emission purposes.

These vehicle manufacturers have been strong armed into cutting corners at the expense of reliability for EPA regs. GM isn't the only one with these problems.

Completely agree that 0W20 is bad for these motors, but I still believe there is something wrong with the post covid cars. There are way more failures with those versus the precovid cars it seems like. The L87 came out in 2019, the recall is for 21-24. I think there is some truth to the cranks being bad (either due to poor maching or contamination as they claim) and I believe it has to do with GM cutting costs in quality to improve shareholder value.

100% on point. I have a Jeep Wrangler with the 3.6L V6 that came factory filled with 5W20. Funny how Chrysler used to recommend 5W30 on the exact same engine for years. In fact they still do for overseas markets. This engine also has issues that many attribute to the thin oil. I changed to 5W30 years ago and have had zero issues. Like you say, these thin oils, super long oil changes, and "lifetime" fluids are to please the EPA, definitely not to make sure your vehicle lasts beyond the warranty.

Can account for manufacturers wanting the “lifetime” fluids. Have a G05 X5 with “lifetime” differential fluid and I’ve had it flushed due to infamous diff shudder on that platform.

If I had a quarter for every vehicle I’ve owned with a shudder, I’d have two quarters which isn’t much but weird that it’s happened twice

I had my diff oil changed at 6900 when my oil was changed just for piece of mind. Yeah, this whole lifter thing and 0w20 oil is just ridiculous cost cutting for GM has ended up costing billions.....not supposed to work that way guys....someone missed that at business school....but yes I agree, EPA regulations have driven manufacturers to do stupid things as well.
