I'm going to say fake news here since there's no Charger, Challenger, or Kia products listed and those have been reported as the most stolen for years now.

Not to steal the thread but, hey Z OH 6 how is the new Mustang GT 500 treating you? Is the Mustang on the most stolen list also I wonder.

Which is to say that a higher than average number of ZL1s built are stolen.

I don't leave it parked anywhere but my storage unit. Albuquerque is not kind to people who want to keep their cars for themselves.

The GT500 was beautiful, sounded fantastic and very quick but it felt very heavy, rode really rough, had ZERO technology in it compared to the ZL1 or Blackwing, the radio would skip while playing mp3s, yes I said skip, which doesn't make any sense to me. The Recaro seats were not comfortable, and the interior quality was terrible, looked like it came out of a $30K Mustang rental with a few carbon fiber bits added to jazz it up. The dash would rattle when driving over bumpy roads. It just wasn't worth the price to me. That car would have been quite good at $60K, but at $80K plus, it just feels outdated and overpriced, although they do have excellent resale value. MSRP on my car was $80.6K new and the dealer gave me $82k for my trade in, considering the car was 5 years old, I thought that was quite good, it only had 4800 miles on it, but still. |

That's a terrible statistic then. That being said, still lower numbers than the Charger, Challenger and Kia's since they sell WAY more of those than the ZL1.

Can you imagine if a manufacturer only built 1000 of a car, and 350 of them were stolen? Yeah, it's less than 1700 that were stolen of a car that had 20,000 built, but it would also indicate that the first car has an issue with theft prevention. The thefts are only limited because the production is limited. That's not a good thing....

I have been really thinking on buying a 22 model ZL1 and was getting really serious until I saw this on the news. I did not check with my insurance company if this effected the rate which I am pretty sure it did or will but have any of you had your insurance rates go up now because of this? I am talking about these ZL1's being the most reported stolen now.

Only data point I have is getting a quote a couple weeks ago from NCM Insurance and it was 50% more than my regular insurance. I expected 50% LESS. LOL

The two ways of stealing our cars is Gun point and key cloning... Guess which one is the cheapest! Lucky for me, I live in a South Carolina neighborhood where 60% of my neighbors are Public Servants, First Responders and one is known as the Director of Probation & Parole for the entire state... so guess how often I even worry about locking my car or truck. There are more signs here stating, "Get right with God first, we do not dial 911!" and being from Texas, I fit right in. I just switched to NCM insurance on my Ram Truck, two Corvettes and my ZLE from Progressive and saved nearly $1100 each year adding more coverage for stated values. |

The HLDI (Highway Loss Data Institute) report is not necessarily offering any helpful details when it comes to prevention, but the region/years diagrams on page six are interesting. Unusually, California shows an exceptionally high claim frequency for 2024's.
