Engine fan running at full blast after turning off the car
Turned off my Camaro (6th gen v6) after returning from work but the engine fan remained on on full blast for a good 10-15 minutes. I started the car a couple of times after and it did the same thing after turning it off. I wasn’t paying attention to coolant temperature dial while driving, but checked the coolant temperature on info board and it’s blank. Checked the coolant. The surge tank is 3/4 full but overflow is empty. Any idea what could be causing this? Just low coolant levels? Or is there something else I need to get checked?

Not trying to scare you but my fan use to run hard all the time. Car never overheated and never noticed a leak until 3 weeks back. Turned out there was a small pin hole in the radiator. Replaced it and now the fan runs normal again.

Check the coolant temperature sensor first.
If that fails, the car will default to fans on HIGH all the time as a protective measure. If you are not getting any temp display, the sensor has likely failed. I believe that is much easier to replace on the V6 compared to the thermostat (which is a PITA). |

While I can't be SURE....very likely the fan is running on full like that because it THINKS there's a problem with the cooling system and it's trying to protect the motor. The most common issue is the temp sensor not sending a signal. Second most common is the thermostat is ACTUALLY stuck and causing a legitimate overheating condition. -Either way, the car is turning on the fan to protect the motor.

see this post and old thread.
if t-stat is bad it should log a code, and fans will run on high until code is cleared. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=35 |

To add, my onstar diagnostics is showing that the car is perfectly healthy and there are no issues with the cooling system. I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow, let's see what they say.

Thermostat is slightly sticking open allowing overcooling condition. That is triggering the P0128 which disables the coolant temp reading, turns fans on high, and displays power steering assist error on some vehicles. Common problem with 3.6 LGx V6 and LT1 V8 engines.
