Michelin Tires Mixing?
So I've been running the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires front and back on my 2021 Camaro 1LE for street driving and really love them.
Its become time to get another set and I'm trying to decide between some options. I'm curious about running run flats (ZP),but I notice that Michelin only does the Pilot Super Sport as a run flat in the front size (285/30-20) and the Pilot Sport 4S as a run flat in the back size (305/30-20). I would assume a SS on the front and a 4S on the back would be fine, but anyone with experience or comments about run flats? I keep a string kit and a pair of pliers in the trunk (along with factory compressor kit) but a little peace of mind would be nice. If not that route should I get non-run flat Super Sports all the way around again or go to the 4S? I keep reading that the 4S is superior to the Super Sport so curious if any real world experience there from anyone? Thanks, Matt |

My comments are related to the OEM Goodyear run flats specifically. I spent $1200 to replace them with Conti DW06's at 7500 miles and my only regret is not doing it sooner. I carry both a stand alone compressor and a dual function compressor/sealant unit (plus my AAA card as well).

I wouldn't recommend mixing the 2 tires. I've read that sidewalls are softer on PS4S than on PSS. Might create undesired handling and/or cornering characteristics.

I ended up going with PS4S this time around. Had PSS previously. We'll see

I'd love to hear some feedback about how much and what kind of difference you actually feel with the softer PS4S sidewall design, especially in fast turns.

I ran MPSS on the front and 4S in the back with no issues. I did not autocross the car during the time but street manners were fine. This is on my 5th gen as well so much heavier car. Any "issues" with the tire should be exaggerated more due to additional weight vs the 6th gen.

I’ll definitely follow up after I get some miles on them. So far I can’t say they’re any quieter than the PSS’s (not that they seemed noisy anyhow, but I did read reviews that the PS4 was quieter). Thought I had a chance the other day to see how fast I could take one of the 25 mph loops from one interstate to another, but traffic conditions said otherwise. With the old PSS tires I could hold at 70 and feel like I had change to spare with zero body roll
