is it worth buying a extended warr.

have a 2023 zl1-1le with 2300 miles-hardly use it and tough nowadays to have some fun in Florida with all the new speeding laws. So it looks like I will be keeping this long past its factory warranty and looking at a extended but have had problems in the past with new Chevrolet warranty taking care of the problems in warranty so have you added a extended policy and if so which one?
Also if you can give a rough idea on cost as well as 5-6-7 years.

Thanks
Mark

I think the costs of some of these warranties can vary - widely.

I bought a GM one, and I think it was (something) like $2500 to extend it a few more years and few tens of thousands of miles more. It was kinda stupid, because of a lot of the stuff I've done, but I thought I was going to leave it stock. I should have known better.

If you plan to mod', unless you have a friendly dealership you can go to, I'm not sure it's worth it. You car is new enough the oil pump issue isn't much of one, and (I believe) you already have the TCM update for monitoring the valve body pressure(s). Aside from the BCM TSB, I'm not sure there's a whole lot for you to worry about.

Just be careful you understand exactly what the warranty covers, and under what circumstances.

NOPE!!! Join us for a few track days and on our Drive Florida Rally Events, we have FHP escorts and these guys LITERALLY Open the Roadway for us to do blasts when its safe!! There may or might now be any evidence of such antics on YouTube on Alligator Alley as many of us made earned the 200mph club!

if its gm extended warranty, I would consider it and ready carefully what is covered and whats is not. If its a 3rd party warranty, I would only consider it if the company has very good reputation and reviews. Make sure that the warranty will be transferable to the next owner in case you decided to sell the car which will definitely add value. My second advice is to keep the car stock and do the service on time. Good luck!

IMHO - this is GREAT advice.

It seems like there are many instances where good maintenance, especially for lubricants, can help with issues. It seems like there is a consensus building for earlier oil changes for the engine a transmission. Not going more than about 5000 miles between oil changes (or using the OLM system GM has given us, which seems to be regarded as pretty good) is something that will help the AFM lifters from failing early, for example. Watching a transmission guy talk about a lot earlier transmission servicing (fluid and filter) than what GM says about the A10s can help with valve body issues (he says 20-30k at MOST between services). Shoot - it wasn't long ago, when I was working at the dealership, that GM was saying 3 years/36000 miles between tranny services, and GM says "lifetime" now...

These fluid changes are expensive. Even if you have the member discounts for Amsoil, for example, you'll be paying < $150 for an oil change. Shoot - I just paid almost $300 for an upcoming transmission service (I also paid for a new pan gasket, which I probably don't need) - that's just the lube/parts - I'm doing the work. But - this is my keeper, so no expense is spared. I think staying on top of the simpler service will extend the life of these assemblies, and spending the extra money on high quality goods might be a better alternative than what an extended warranty might cover.

Right now I would go with this company if I still have the car December 2026.

Ask for Adam DuMoulin. Super helpful.

There is a Podcast interview with the retired director of powertrain, specifically the transmissions and he said their legal department found it more profitable to push the 50-60K and Lifetime intervals for most cars on the transmissions as most of the cars never would last that long to begin with. He further pointed out where ZF was the designer of the transmission internals, GM would always have to screw it up by using their pump/torque converters/valve bodies instead of the ZF parts, which lead to 100% of the failures. FORD was smart and simply made a one-piece case, leaving all the internals alone. SUCCESS!!

At 32k miles on my ZLE, my oil changes are done before nearly every track day, my transmission intervals are a pan-drop fluid inspection which honestly have not been as frequent as how many times I keep changing the cooling system... but was typically every 4-5 track weekends. I do flush the eLSD every month or 3-5 track days because I do have a lift, and a 5-gallon pail from Amsoil with the easy pump. Its literally a 5-minute job when the car is already on the lift getting inspected to be abused again. All this to say, IF there were a chance for a system to fail... It has not shown itself due to a lack of maintenance.

I had the extended warranty and cancelled it as I determined it was unnecessary for my use.

I think I caught that very same podcast. One of the other surprising bits was how the 5-pinion planetary "upgrade" for 4L60Xs was not, indeed, and upgrade. That was a revelation, IMO because it's still thought of as one, when, apparently, it isn't. I think the ZF-deal was the 6-speed, wasn't it? That was interesting.

With the amount of development it seems you're doing, I wouldn't imagine you keep those lubricants in your car for too long. I suspect you would already understand the importance of the frequency of lube changes are, but with the literature the manufacturers send out there, it's not surprising most people think you're okay not changing fluids until they get rid of the car. The company CEO doing the valve body upgrades said 20K service intervals for the 10LX0s would be preferable because of the substandard metallurgy of these parts, and that's just insane. He was saying how bad the quality has gotten over what it was. That's all to save a few cents for every car leaving these plants. My car is the last car I buy new, from anyone. All the manufacturers are doing it. They'd rather spend the engineering money making our cars phones (with all these gimmicks) than quality products than can last more than a few years. Whatever...

The best price I could find for both my 22 ZL1, and my son's 23 Cam RS was from MacMulkin Chevy with Todd S. Mine was a 7yr/85K and my son 6y/90k Platinum with 100 deductibles. These plans do not start until the date of purchase. My son's plan expires on 7/26/2030 or at 100186 miles. My son's plan was $1675
