LT1 slow motor oil leak

Car has a very slow oil leak. There is a Tiny stain on concrete where I’ve been parking the car for years. Please see pic of wet oil pan. Any ideas on source? Cracked pan? The drain plug is dry. Could not find smoking gun. Thank you Name: IMG_4697.jpg

My first guess would be a leaky oil gasket. One thing that would be unusual, but not impossible could be a failed seam in the oil pan itself from faulty welding or a stress fracture.

This is the direction of flow. Looks like The leak is running down from somewhere off of the picture. If that part is dry then it's coming through the oil pan casting.

My '16 2SS ended up having a pan leak. At the time, I still had a factory warranty and I had a shop do it (regrettably), along side a replacement washer-fluid pump. I haven't had to do it myself, but dropping the cradle for a Whipple was quit the process in it's own. I do know the charge from the shop to warranty was over $4k for both of the above.

Looking through posts here, a lot of people mention just tightening the bolts will often fix the issue (assuming it is the pan).

Before fixing the source of the leak, also determine the cause of the excess pressure in crankcase.
Do you use an oil catch can or oil catch filter system to help create a vacuum in the crankcase.

Check that the PCV system is working properly.

Much easier to put a socket on the oil pan bolts and see for yourself. A few of mine took a full turn…no more leak. It was right above the filter where you can see a few of the bolts. Dont run straight to pulling the pan or replacing a gasket.

Yes I have a mishimoto catch can, will check it out.

Will also check pan bolts torque.

Thank you.

Thank you.

i just took my car to the dealer for the same reason, they found the bolts were loose. under warranty, they re-gasket the oil pan and change the oil for free

That's great but make sure you check your oil level, some incompetent dealers have been know to not realize these engines take 10 qts of oil... NEVER trust the Dealer to do anything right, don't trust and ALWAYS verify...

LOL when I did my couple free oil changes they must have thought I was crazy.. First thing I do when they give me back the keys is open up the hood of the car in their parking lot and do a personal inspection. (I do check my ODO before and after too, just an oil change, no need to drive it!)

I don't trust many people with my car which includes dealers, but I will let them touch it. I just take some precautions
