hi i need some help.Mostly from my peeps in Cali. i plan to do a secondary cat delete on my 6th gen maro but i need to know if my car will pass smog after
now i know it won’t trigger a check engine light since the ecu only monitors the primary cats but will it still not pass smog when i do my secondary cat delete?

It is true that the ECM doesn't monitor secondary cats, but you will only pass emissions if it's limited to OBD-II checking with no visual or camera inspection of the underbody.

You won't pass.....you will fail the visual...I just moved from there after 10 years......and you misspelled "Camaro"

They do, their even more stringent these days. They start with the visual, and than move to the sniffer. I failed the last go around because I had a catch can.........glad i left that place.

You will fail the visual. On newer cars it is just a visual inspection, check the gas cap if you have one, and they plug into the ODBII port to check diagnostics. The sniffer/roller test I believe is usually for vehicles 1996 ish and older. Also, the secondary cats are part of the muffler exhaust system. The primary cats can be purchased separately but the secondary cats come as part of the entire 11' long exhaust system. So if you remove them and need to replace them, FYI it will cost you a chunk of cash. I had a primary cat fail and took out the secondary. Had to replace the entire exhaust system just to get the secondary cats.

This is incorrect, "New" cars off the lot, sold as "New" have a 4 year grace period, at year 5 they start the sniffer test. And believe me they will get you on year 5. The state doesn't miss year 5

Here in Texas we have a 2 year grace period for cars that require inspections. But this year we dropped safety inspections and only counties that are high population or attach to high population counties have to do emissions test. And it's just obd2 with 1 monitor can be not ready.

I agree, I had my car done last weekend, took me longer to drive there then it did the inspection. I love this place.

First smog check:
.
The first smog check will be due when you renew your registration in a few years, typically when the car is 6 years old, so on the 7th renewal you will need to smog or in some cases, when it's transferred to a new owner.

And any if you delete any of your CATs you will fail.

Damn it's year 7 now on new cars? Hmm that's good! Although if you get pulled over by CHP and they write you a ticket for said exhaust modifications etc than get state reffed, than have to put it all back on blah blah blah haha that could be bad.

Thank you but your information on CA emissions testing is not correct. I live in Ca and deal with this regularly with both my personal vehicles and company fleet vehicles. My 2006 Expedition has never seen a sniffer. Each year it is ODBII check only. The dyno/sniffer is usually saved for pre ODBII vehicles, vehicles labeled as gross polluters and any with special requirements. I can not verify for larger commercial vehicles over 10k lbs gvw. Depending on the age and type of vehicle, there are different types of emissions tests required.
