Question about the Magnuson 2650
Im getting closer to making the decision of boosting my car Ive been leaning towards the D-1sc but the 2650 is starting to look more and more appealing.
Setup is 23 2SS FBO Heads/Cam E85, Is the 2650 worth having only running ~8 pounds of boost? I know some are going to suggest the LT4 blower but Id rather just Procharger it over going that route because: 1. I don't want to just be a poor mans ZL1 and have the same blower on an LT1 Id like to be different. 2. Ill be moving somewhere pretty humid and hot and I know the LT4 blowers have cooling issues. Would the 2650 stay pretty cool since I'm running it super light? Also what are some of the highest miles you've seen on a boosted LT1? |

Both the Maggie 2650 and Whipple 3.0 will outperform the oem LT4 blower or D1SC. You can run low boost for now with superior cooling and have plenty of headroom to turn it up down the road too.

The Maggie you have to do port plates. So six of one half dozen of another. Maggie has been out longer and a solid track record of big power. There are less Whipple’s on the LT platform, I’m just under 1100 WHP and am slowly turning it up. But we don’t know what the upper limit on the Whipple is yet. Don’t think that really matters for what you’re shooting for. ![]() Both are excellent options for you.

As someone looking at boosting down the line, I'd like to hear your thought process on why you are liking the Maggie over the Procharger.

Procharger is cheaper and a little easier install. FYI there are 9 cars with superchargers in the Quick 20 list, and 7 of them are Maggie 2650s (1 Edelbrock 2650 and 1 ported LT4 round out the list). There are no Prochargers on the list. Rest are turbo cars.

I love the mostly flat torque curve, the fact that my car has more torque at 1800-2000 rpm in 7th or even 8th gear than 95% of other cars at WOT, so I don't have to rev the living crap out of it to feel something (yet it still pulls hard at 6500-6700 rpm with all my mods), and most of, all once the tires hook, they remain hooked because there is no crazy midrange torque ramp. On the other hand, I'm not a drag strip junkie, I run street tires with which 1st gear is useless and 2nd is barely usable, I can only floor it from 30-35 mph, which is certainly a compromise, but one I can happily live with. No need to use the brake pedal for burnouts either, heh. That said, a PD can launch incredibly hard with a proper drag pack.

In your case Arpad you may want to look at your tune. Pulling a degree or two of timing in the lower RPM ranges (2000-4000 RPM) can help blunt the torque on the hit. Once you’re underway the missing timing doesn’t matter since you’ll never be back into that low RPM range again during the rest of the run. That trick helped me get my car to hook up better at launch. A Smoothboost delivers more progressive PD blower power too since you get full boost at commanded WOT (pedal position), not because the vacuum bypass felt like it lol
