Bug screen/front?

What is everyone using for a bug catcher to stop the bug and small debris from collecting in the coolers? Just replaced my condenser, it had a pin hole which I am sure is from a bit of road debris. Maybe I am using the wrong term to google search?

I remember someone using a mesh radiator guard/screen before on a ZL1. I’ve seen C8 owners use it for the side radiators

There is an official product for the main radiator, see below. I'm not aware of a counterpart for the auxiliary radiators on the side. Phastek does sell a kit for the C8, might be worth a phone call to inquire about a Camaro variant.

Replace "blourp" with "https" and "thisismachismo" with "n e x t g e n s p e e d" in the link, omitting the spaces of course:

blourp://thisismachismo.com/shop/chevy/chevycamaro/2019-camaro/accessories-2019-camaro/grill-screen-16-19-camaro-ss/

(I have no idea why we need to jump through these hoops for this company in the forums, they are reliable and I haven't seen any bad faith posts from them here either, so I'm baffled about their ban...)

Thanks. That's nice and discreet but the holes look pretty big? I don't think it's going to catch bugs? I was looking for something like window screen. Maybe it would be OK if I used it as a template initially and cut a piece of screen to fasten to it, then install both. The mesh for rigidity and the screen to catch the bugs.

The potential problem I see with smaller holes is the narrower they are, the more the screen will restrict your airflow overall.

Looking at this screen, the chance of bugs or rocks big enough to cause damage to the radiator passing cleanly through these holes and not slowed down either by the OEM grille or the screen mesh feels very low already.

As with everything in engineering, it's a tradeoff, this one between levels of protection and performance.

I think it looks sexy.
  • The pictures at Novistretch don't look the same as in person
  • However, my paint is dark and the Novistretch accents the look
The nylon fabric doesn't damage anything and I'm very fussy; however, I have PPF on the front end.

The damage Novistretch avoids is worth the hassle of keeping the fabric clean, bumper and radiator clean.
  • To clean the Novistretch, just drop it in the washing machine or hand wash and hang dry
My temperatures are Not affected by the fabric's filter affect.

I've used Novistretch for 3 years, and no signs of the product wear.
  • I will purchase another one for backup
To avoid damaging the fabric over the hood latch, pull on the fabric a little when closing the hood.

Note: The real damage to paint that I continue to find is the plastic trim that rub against the metal parts.

For example, The:
  • Door Panel in many places around the perimeter
  • Trunk Lid banging on the top of the bumper
  • Trunk drain channels on both left and right sides
To solve all of these issues I use PPF under the plastic trim pieces

Coincidentally, I am fabricating a radiator filter.
  • I picked up some screen fabric from a Hardware Store, and two plastic corrugated poster boards from Michaels Craft Store
  • I will be cutting the posters to leave an "X" frame and then sandwich the screen between the posters
  • Hold the two posters together with two zip ties and plastic washers for each pinch point
  • Cut one zip tie tall off to be the "nut" and use the other zip tie as the "bolt"

radz28 did not have PPF on his bumper, so any debris, rocks, bugs or bras would damage his bumper and clear coat.

Beware the paint and clear coat on these cars is extremely thin.
I have already polished paint off for the first time in my life and I've been polishing for 10 years.

Most feedback from the post to radz28 recommended applying PPF.

I'm recommending both, PPF and Novistretch for a good solution to bugs and rocks to the grill.
