Camaro SS to Corvette C8 1LT?

Subject says it all. Considering selling the SS and getting a Corvette. Mine is a 1SS M6. Wondering if I will miss the manual trans? Also, power-wise will it feel much faster given the mid-engine design and automatic trans. How is storage space in the vette? I golf and play hockey.

thanks for any advice.

I would miss the manual. I didn't get my camaro to be the fastest or best at anything. I got it because it was fun to drive. To me an automatic is one step away from just riding in the car instead of driving it.

Another thing, if you look at the dash setup on the camaro vs the c8,
The camaro has easy access controls for driver and passenger. Its setup for you and a friend. It says "get in buddy, lets enjoy this together"
The c8 is heavily focused on the driver and pretty much hides everything from the passenger. It says "if you wanted a nice ride you should have drove your own damn car" to your passenger buddy.

A friend of mine showed me his C8 last year. Yeah, the passenger experience is strange. It feels like there is a small wall between the driver and passenger.

I also own a Honda S2000 which is very driver oriented, but the passenger seat doesn't feel strange. The S2000's manual trans is near perfect. I like the shifter and transmission on the SS, but the gearing is bad. The gear ratios. I think Chevrolet had to do this because of fuel economy. The S2000 has even, close ratio gears.

I'm going to try and maybe rent a C8 for a day or two.

Well your M6 Camaro SS is rated at 4.3 seconds 0-60 (12.5 second 1/4 mile) (the A10 SS is 4.0 seconds 0-60 and 12.3 second 1/4 mile), the standard Corvette Stingray with the Z51 package is rated at 2.9 seconds 0-60 (11.2 second 1/4 mile), I'd say it will feel significantly faster based just on that, plus I'm going to guess you'll be sitting slightly lower which will make it feel even faster...

Just 2 very different cars... I prefer the "Muscle Car" look/feel, even if it isn't quite as fast as the "Euro-Type Sports Car"...

If you *think* you'll miss the manual, I can confidently say you will...

My car before my ZL1 was a 991.2S... with the PDK. With a Softronic tune, it was blisteringly quick. My dragy showed 3.41 second 0-60s (on unprepped New England roads), and probably in the mid-high 10's in the quarter. I believe (iirc) there were reports of 10.2x on prepped drags on summer tires. That's a *fast* car.

That said, being "really fast" gets really boring when all you do is plant your foot. It might take a while, but it will happen. Took me a little over a year but I sold the 911S and bought a ZL1 because I missed the engagement.

There's always going to be someone faster out there, so why not just thoroughly enjoy the experience you.

If you're really looking to upgrade... get a ZL1 or CT5V-Blackwing, with a manual.

My client has a C8. ( sold his ss after getting it back from getting stolen) I have driven and rode in his C8, and I can say that it is definitely a lot faster than a ss. I think up top theyre a little closer but the C8 definitely is faster in most applications. The interior room is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. Two normal sized adult males and we are almost touching shoulders. For storage, you say you play golf and hockey, good luck. This particular C8 had the retractable roof so the storage was even smaller in the back. I guess you could squeeze your gear in the passenger seat. MAYBE. Just understand its a sports car, its not exactly practical. Thats why many love the camaro, sportscar speed and handling with a little bit of practicality

If your looking at new, the 2026 C8 has an updated interior design and the "wall" is gone.

I've driven a Z51 C8 and a newer Z06.

The Z51 is no doubt faster, especially off the line, but it didn't leave me feeling like my Camaro was really that much slower when I romped on the pedal.

The Z06 on the other hand was Fing amazing, and I'll leave it at that lol.

I raced a C8 from a 60 roll when my car was stock, he beat me by a car length to 130. Pretty close unless you're going from a stop.

The 2026 refresh reduces the compartmental design and gives it a couple of new screens.

Make sure you know the risk with the trans in the C8.
