while the reports are useful, do not depend on Blackstone to give you an accurate fuel dilution. they do not physically test for fuel dilution using gas chromatography, they use an algorithm based on the viscosity compared against your mileage. it is notoriously inaccurate on the conservative side.

give oil analyzers a try (sold through Amsoil), they use the correct physical test method. my street driven LT1 on a 5k mile change showed 1.5, and 1.7% fuel dilution on both tests i did with them through their reports. i've personally capped my changes at 6k miles max for this reason, even if viscosity is still in grade.

There have been three variations on that filter over the years. There was the original that GM put on the C7 Corvettes that had some early engine failures. They said it was from flashing coming off the filter and going through the system. They changed the filters to a better design. Now they have changed the design again a few years ago (around 2021, which is when we started seeing more failures in the cars, interestingly enough). If you go look at a new PF64, the center hole has a flange around it. On every single one I’ve looked at, the flange is poorly made. There’s cracking around the flange opening, there’s metal shavings that are either sitting there or loose, or flashing that can come off. If that comes off, it’s on the clean side of the filter, and it can run through your engine and spin a bearing. And it will be totally random. Maybe the flashing doesn’t come off, maybe it gets pushed through the oiling to a benign part of the system and falls into the pan where the filter gets it, or maybe it goes to a bearing and spins it. I won’t use that style (a central spout style) on any of my cars.
Interesting. What oil filter do you use?

I had Blackstone do a used oil analysis on a 7k mile oil change on my SS 1LE with unmodified engine (OLM showed 4% oil life remaining) with the original formula Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 DexosR 2 oil including about 10 hours of track days. They said everything looked healthy and suggested trying a 9k mile oil change interval next time (but I didn't personally feel comfortable exceeding the OLM for warranty purposes). They found 0.5% fuel dilution vs. their maximum allowable recommendation of 1.9%.

I had them do another used oil analysis later with the newer formula Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 at 5k miles including some track days and they suggested increasing the oil change interval to 7k miles with only a trace amount of fuel found and the viscosity, flashpoint, and TBN all being slightly higher than on the previous analysis.
I am not going to go spend a bunch of time pulling up info on it. Just spend a little time with your favorite search engine.

I have had a Whipple installed on my SS since 2019. Have run nothing but 5w30 Castrol Edge and K&N 1017 changed every 3k. Good luck with your 9k mile oil change interval's. Lmao

I love it, people buy a $50k-$80K car and want to cheap out on oil changes... REALLY?!?!?!?! It's a $100-$150 oil change!!!! If you can't afford that, perhaps you should have considered a much less expensive vehicle because you are in WAY over your head...

There are several oil filters that I think are good. The important thing is just to use a quality brand that you like and that does NOT have that little flange/spout type of center hole and that has the correct bypass valve rating (sometimes it's listed as 22 to 28 psi, sometimes 25 psi, but you need more than the older V8s that had a filter bypass at around 15 psi).

As far as the filters that I typically will use on my cars:

Purolator Boss 11403
Mobil 1 M1-114A
Fram - I know a lot of people don't like Fram because of the low end products, but their higher end filters are well made and test very well. I will use the Synthetic Endurance (Walmart exclusive), the Titanium (Advance Auto Parts exclusive), or the Ultra Synthetic. The series number is 12060.

Those are just what I like to use. Lots of people like other brands like Wix. The brands I use are mostly related to the products that I can find easily where I normally shop.

it's generally not a good idea to increase the cold weight. all you are doing is increasing viscosity for cold starts to a range outside of what is expected
