LT2 intake advice
so, I have 2ss with a simple stage 1 cam and I was going to install a e85 kit and LTH with 3" x pipe but decided to also get a lt2 manifold but I don't know what's better to go with gpi and get it ported and all the modifications plus the 95mm TB. Or buy a stock lt2 and do all the modifications myself and get it ported as well.
I just want to know what way would y'all do. because i know i need some fittings, wire extension, and some drill fittings but also need to know if i can run my stock TB or do i need an adapter plate so is it worth the extra bucks to get everything from gpi or do it myself |

One of the things I love about the LT2 IM aside from it being a great simple upgrade over the stock LT1 IM is its price point. I bought my LT2 brand new from RockAuto, at the time was $185 now $215 it seems, plus $25 for the ride. I enjoy doing my own work but for my application and to keep tuning simplified for a first fire on a brand new engine I kept it not ported for now and running on the 87mm TB. I know it's a restriction point, but until I put my first dyno run down I'm not going to port the IM or upgrade the TB.
As far as if it's worth having GPI do the work, that is very much a personal point of order. What's your time and money worth to you? Do you have the skill and tools to do the work yourself and confident in a positive outcome? If I didn't already have the LT2 in hand, and I was considering having GPI do the work, I would buy the IM and Port job from them, and that's it. That'll put you at $560 plus the ride. Then I would order the LT2 Install kit from Phastek, that's $45 plus the ride and it comes with everything you need including the the extension harness, to install. Shaving the manifold and drilling the vacuum port wasn't difficult at all DIY. From there, it's your choice on TB. There are a couple options for Ported 95mm TB's ~$300 plus the ride from either Katech or Soler, otherwise the easy go-to is RockAuto if you just want an off the shelf LT5 95mm $215 plus the ride. Without an adapter, you'll have to do some metal shaving on the LT5 TB to match it up to the LT2 TB holes. Beyond that, I believe it needs to be sealed via RTV or some other method of custom gasket. I'm not sure if the Katech straight 95mm TB adapter works on the non-ported version 95mm, one would think so and if it does, maybe that is a cleaner solution than drilling out the LT5. You can save about ~$360-$600 going DIY, and pinching the pennies on what vendor you use for parts/service. Or you can smash the easy button with GPI for as much as $1,000 and have a really blingy Ported LT2 setup, ported 95mm, and not have to break a sweat except to do the swap. Just one other curve ball to throw out there. If you do go LT2 IM and decide you want to up your fuel game to a LT4 setup (or similar HPFP) the LT2 has special needs as the LT4 HPFP won't fit under it without spacers. At that point you'll have to consider port matching the adapters, and that gets fun especially after shelling potentially $1k into the IM already. Just food for thought.

I bought my ported LT2 IM used. but i have seen people buy a OEM LT2 IM from Rockato and Phastek sells a DIY Kit to modify it yourself. this is the cheapest route if you want a non-ported one
if you want a ported one, might buy it from FB or a new one from GPI, Pray, or SMG. Here is a little Ad... I bought a FBO kit from my friend after he sold his car, I was planning to upgrade to his new MSD IM, but i decided not to retune it for just for 5more hp.. I’d also use a new tuner it’s gonna be like another 1K$.. and I wont put a cam in this camaro.. if you want a new& unported MSD intake. shoot me a message

I'd get the MSD and have a professional with proven porting experience port it, or look for a used ported MSD from someone with proof. What is the simple cam? So the car had a cam installed with no other mods? Make this make sense.
