That is interesting. When I called a week or so ago, they said they could not do it. They said only the BCM could be done. That seems to be the reply. Chevy has given a few others on this form as well. I cannot believe how inconsistent GM is being with this situation. I guess I will call them again this week and see if anything has changed. They must still be cranking out New parts for the transmission fix and until they get critical mass with the parts they’re probably waiting to send out notices i.e. the second letter.

That won't do anything.

As I mentioned many times. Chevy Dealers are refusing to do anything about it "Because there is no fix" My dealership found the recall and refused to do anything INCLUDING the BCM update, not that I want it anyways.

That is GM lying to NHTSA.

That is GM lying to the Attorney General's (An exteme liberal leftist in my state.)

That is GM skirting warranty claims by extending vehicles outside of it and/or when they do implement the TCM update which does not in fact prevent the wheel lock from happening because it can NOT reliably predict when the lock up will occur. AKA Placebo.

That is GM telling Modified vehicle owners that they will not adhere to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act until it becomes a problem in the form of Legal Action.

So all these stock cars that are unmodified that Chevy is refusing to do recalls on.

Welcome to my world, the difference is you have a warranty I don't, and GM has already blamed my engine modifications as a reason for them putting a defective part into stock A10 Transmissions from the factory.

Ya my bad by the way, I didn't realize my engine modifications would effect your cars too, otherwise I wouldn't have modified my engine.

Thanks for the support 2SS Capt. I did send such support a week or so ago to my dealer that another forum user had posted. My dealer said while the support was compelling, he could do nothing because of what GM says. He punched in my VIN number and it came back, saying nothing could be done that a fix was not yet available. I explained to him that the fix they were referring to was probably the mechanical part replacement fix in the transmission and not the software update. He was confused by that statement and I’ve been on vacation the last week and have not had a chance to follow up with him. Your support will be another example that the proof is in the pudding. Thanks again for your support.

I know when I went to my dealer they said one of the items was in one area of their computer and it took them a few minutes to find the Trans software update as it was in another section... I can't remember what exactly they said, maybe it was an advisory or something like that?

Well, will wonders never cease. I got back from vacation and was about to call the dealer when he ended up calling me and saying that he had been checking the computer every day with my VIN number and it finally came up as being OK to fix both BCM and the transmission Software update. I’m going down tomorrow to have both software updates performed. I will try to pin him down with when the parts are gonna be ready to fix the transmissionand the second letter goes out to all owners affected.

Roddrz - It looks like you used about 11 quarts. Is that right? Do you have any other recommendations?

Thanks!

You'll need at least 14 quarts according to AMSOIL, if you have a transmission cooler.
  • I ordered 14 from AMSOIL and delivery is normally the next day, but I order a couple extra in case I kick one over or I don't want to run short.
Note: I run a V6 10L60 with 11.5 quarts that uses less fluid than the 10L80.

If you do run short, Mercon ULV has a higher temp rating than Dexron ULV; however, AMSOIL's specifications exceeds both Mercon and Dexron.

If I recall, you are installing the NextGen Drivetrain Valve Body Upgrade kit.

When installing, remove the transmission thermostat for better cooling but now you can also do a full flush of all 14 quarts without having to bring the transmission up to a certain fluid temperature.

Besides I can never get the tranny temp much past 165 Fahrenheit with a cooler that is disconnected from the engine's radiator coolant heater.

When you drop the pan, why not install a drain plug?
I recommend a good plug with gaskets and it does not leak.
(Superior Transmission Parts)

When you drop the Valve Body, another 4 quarts will slowly drip out into a catch basin. The transmission pan holds 4 quarts, 4 more quarts are in the torque converter and 1 quart in the cooler and lines.

After everything is reassembled:
  • Prime the pan with 5 quarts of fluid
  • Disconnect the output line from your cooler into a large drain pan
(To find the output line, before changing fluid, run the car to find the cold return)
  • Then start your car
  • Shift it into neutral
  • Start pumping the rest of the fluid into the refill hole using a GM adaptor tool and an electric pump
(CTA Tools 7431 ATF Filler Adapter - M6x1.0)
  • On average the dirty fluid pumping out from the tranny, changes color to clean just as I run out of fluid pumping in
  • GM recommends to have no fluid drip from their drain straw
  • So this is where the drain plug facilitates draining some fluid, if required
  • I've provided the calculation for expansion and the result is very little fluid approximately, 1/2 quart
Coefficient of thermal expansion for oils and transmission fluids is around 0.0007 per degree C (0.07%/C).
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th...h-heat.316726/

Summer time temperature change might be ambient air temperature 68F (20C), at start up, to around 180F(82C) at operating temperature. Or, around 62C.

Therefore, during the summertime, the fluid could be expected to expand 0.0007 x 62C = 0.0434 (4.3%).

10.8 L expands 464 mL
Therefore fill to the fill tube over flows, then remove 400 ml from the pan (typo: not the cooler).

Saw this in my warranties list:

Special Coverage N242480631 - 15 years / 150k miles coverage

Essentially, if a vehicle that had the N242480630 momentary wheel lockup recall done returns with a P0747, they will have the control valve body replaced.

Do note that currently it states only 2020-2021 CT4, CT5, and 2019 CT6 with LSY will have the control valve body replaced as it is a phased launch, but 2020-2022 Camaro’s are included.

Thank you for providing the update.

However, there are significant concerns regarding the long-term impact of the valve body design flaw.
This issue is causing gradual and potentially unnoticed damage to the transmission.

The primary concerns are:
  1. Leaky aluminium valves instead of steel
  2. Leaky paper gasket plates instead of metal
  3. Dislodged gasket screens that plug fluid channels
These problems lead to a loss of hydraulic pressure over time, which may result in extensive damage to other transmission components as stated by NextGen Drivetrain.

Given the severity of this issue, would GM have plans to address the long-term consequences by replacing damaged transmission parts caused by this design flaw?

For context, there has been a report of GM replacing both the engine and transmission in a Cadillac sedan following a wheel lock-up incident, which may be relevant to this situation.

I decided to invest in repairing the valve body for several reasons:
  1. To gain peace of mind
  2. To improve the vehicle's performance
  3. To potentially extend its longevity
While the long-term benefits of this upgrade remain to be seen, I believe it's a worthwhile investment.

This decision aligns with the principle that regular maintenance and preventative care are often necessary to preserve an asset's value and functionality.

By addressing potential issues proactively, we can often avoid more significant problems and expenses in the future.
