Car turned off and back on while driving

Was out for a ride today in my 2020 ZL1 M6 convertible. While driving the car turned itself off then back on by itself within a few seconds (that's what appeared to happen). Instrument cluster went blank, car bogged, no throttle response, then instrument display came back on and now had throttle response, but no sound from the stereo. I had rev match on and TCS off. Now rev match was off and TCS was back on. I was able to change them back to on and off, but had to stop and turn car off/on to get the stereo sound back. This happened twice today. There is a recall for the BCM that has not been done yet, related or not??? Anyone else have this issue?

So, were you moving when it came back on, if the car died, at it was moving in gear that could be what restarted it (like a bump start). Look for loose -NEG battery terminal connection? I don't think that problem is related to the recall. I've not seen that issue posted before. Maybe get your battery tested? When these cars have battery issues they do the weirdest things. I had to replace my battery, prior that same day. I couldn't leave a car show, it would start, rev'd on it's own, dash lights went nuts, warning messages on dash etc. I was able to start the car, but it ran bad at first, I had to keep turning it off and restarting (4 times) until enough cleared up to where I was able to drive it home. Then took the battery to AutoZone and they said it had died. It was so dead it wouldn't test, they tried charging it and it wouldn't take a charge. Good luck.

Something similar happened to me last year when I broke the alternator belt. Car turned off for few seconds & then turned back on by itself

Maybe it’s just a bad battery, alternator or belt hopefully? I know these cars are very finicky with voltage drops.

Check for:
1. water in the trunk
2. hairline cracks in the bus bar and fuses in the battery top positive fuse block.

Problem found. Had time today to get into rear battery compartment. The positive terminal connection was loose. Just touching it the battery disconnected. I must of over torqued the connection and damaged the clamping mechanism putting the battery back in a couple of weeks ago after the Winter nap. I cannot get the connection tight even using a shim. The nut gets nice and tight, but the clamp will not tighten to the post. Will need to replace the positive terminal fuse block part# 84081785.

Thanks for reporting back and giving us a new data point Glad you found the culprit.

The part number comes up as a rear body fuse block, not a terminal clamp, are you sure this is the one that got damaged?

Yes, clamp is part of the fuse block terminal.

My -NEG terminal is acting the same, but holding for now. I will probably need to replace it eventually, just might do it even if it doesn't fail. Not sure what this issue is, but other friends of my in our local Camaro Club have had the same issue with their 22', 22' and 23'. Hmmmm....
