Question for those running kooks long tubes with the kooks ultra green cats

Installed these this week and these new style ball clamps they are using now seem to not hold them tight enough to the long tubes. the cats keep dropping thus dropping the exhaust down. I’ve torqued the clamps to the recommended torque per kooks not to cause damage to the clamps . Anyone run into this issue if so what’s the fix besides v band

I’ve never had mine fall off, but they are a pain to get sealed. Last time I used high heat rtv and then carefully aligned the clamps to exactly the correct spot, tightened down to 20 ft/lbs, and has been good ever since. I was fighting small leaks. You are correct though, I’m not too impressed with this design… if my headers weren’t already coated, they’d be getting v band clamps for sure.

V-band is the way to go IMO. Weldment on the mid-pipe side of the cat would help with stability as well and eliminate the need for the extra clamping point. After many years of toying with aftermarket exhausts on vehicles, nothing beats welded or V-bands.

How is the exhaust odor with these green cats?

Worse than stock because there are no secondary cats, but not obnoxious or annoying. We're car people after all, aren't we

Also, I mix in some fine ethanol and that brings the smell back down to, or even below, stock (with 93).

I have never meet a clamp I liked from any header brand. On my ZL1 I finally did it right and had everything welded up with V-bands, and BOY does that make things easier for future work, not to mention the elimination of any and all leaks. My only suggestion is to have the system welded up prior to sending it out for the jet-hot coating.

What’s the real purpose of green cats over regular ones, or no cats, if you still have exhaust odor? I had a ‘98 Chevy truck back in the early 2000’s that I removed the cats from when doing exhaust work. It’s been a long time, but I don’t remember the fumes being an issue at all.

My truck now has Kooks and green cats with a Corsa cat back system. I don’t think sound wise, it is any louder than not having cats. After having these green cats, I’m not sold on them. We don’t have emissions testing in KY (not yet), so I’m not sure I want to spend the extra mine on them for the Camaro.

Those of you with green cats, do you think sound-wise, the decibel level is about the same as being catless?

I can think of two main reasons: first, the green cats can take much more power than the stock units, and second, although the exhaust has a bit more of the smell than stock, it's nowhere near what a catless setup puts out. As I said, ethanol helps with this significantly, too.

Finally, a very personal reason: although my county doesn't do emissions testing, I don't want to be the dick whose smelly ****box makes people want to (re)introduce it. Live and let live, try to maintain a high trust society and all.

I agree with you 100%. I want to keep a tidy vehicle and be respectful to those on the road with me. I’m trying to figure out why the green cats on my truck are passing so much exhaust smell, or are they? I need to see another vehicle in person running them and compare. Maybe thats just how they are. It seems rather strong when it gets in the cab. Maybe it’s the tuning? I’m just trying to figure out as much about it as I can so I can make an educated decision on whether to do headers on the Camaro or not. I appreciate the info.

Those joints/clamps are pretty bad. Mine leaked from day one even though I followed the instructions. Then I carefully added RTV and it fixed one but not the other. While my car is apart, I'm adding v-bands. Only surefire cure I think
