RAVELCO VS IGLA...

So I'm having a Heads/Cam/Converter/2650 build done right now, and lets just say, its not cheap. After seeing the posts on all the stolen Zl1's, and my 10mm's not being able to discharge themselves without me, I want to protect this thing when I get it back. I have been trying to figure out the differences between the IGLA/Ravelco. I have a Ravelco dealer close, but I dont see an IGLA dealer ( I would need to make the long drive).

Are these systems about the same when it comes to protection or would there be large differences between the two? I see that Ravelco has very good reviews. I'm not a tech guy, so i can't figure out the main differences between the two and which system would be more effective. Any input would be appreciated.

Not even remotely close.

Ravelco can be defeated by 2-3 pieces of bus wire and a $10 ohm meter and a 5 minute video on YT.

Years ago, yeah, Ravelco was awesome.

IGLA is hidden in the car, sits on the CANBUS intercepting comms and without the proper code entered the car will not start. Period. (For a manual, for Automatics I've seen that the car can start, but as soon as you shift out of park, it will kill the engine; this is for remote start reasons I was told - I drive a manual so YMMV)

You can also set it up so that it blocks CANBUS comms, and thieves cannot reprogram a key with it installed. I've read reports both that you have to set it up this way, and that it just automatically does it. I left my IGLA "on", and had my mechanic try and read the emissions ready on my car, and he couldn't get it to work, so I believe that.

They are not even in the same universe of "effectiveness".

Agreed. This was my first year emissions testing with my IGLA copy (Ampire) and I had to enter the code for the emissions software to even read the ECM. I also have to enter the code before I can flash a tune with HPT.

Sounds like a nice build!

I do what I can to NEVER park mine anywhere if I'm not with it. Meaning, I never park it and then go in a restaurant and eat lunch/dinner, never park it and go into a store where I can see it, I don't even park it at someone house for a party or to watch like a 3.5 hour football game, if it's not right there where I can see it. And I will NEVER hand it over to a valet, so I'm either driving it, insight of it or it's parked in my garage. I also have a hidden rechargeable GPS live tracking device on mine, and it isn't an AirTag or a MiTag. This way they can't scan my car for it with their phones. I pay $99 year for constant tracking, live tracking and trip logging, speed, idle time etc., with geofencing alerts for both leave or arrive.

In my garage, I installed locking telescopic parking bollards that are 36" tall. I have one installed 4" from the drivers door, and one installed directly in rear center 4" from the rear bumper. My garage has an alarm, motion detection, siren and flashing lights!

I know all that sounds crazy, but, I'm not risking it. Just a few weeks ago, a member of our Columbus Camaro Club had his SS stolen at the same time a ZL1 and a C7 Vette was stolen from the same semi secure parking garage.

It's also hard to stop this from happening, it's like any pickup can get this piece of equipment and go prowling : 22 seconds and it's gone !

Settle down....that YT guy also had the key to car so it could put power to the plug for his defeating solution...might want to tell the whole story....that's like a guy showing how to defeat the IGLA with the IGLA remote in his hand already...

My ravelco plug is hidden...they have to know it's there in order to defeat it....

No, no, not even close.

You do realize that DMM's have batteries in them, and when you take a resistance reading, you're using the source (battery) of the DMM, not the power in the car... right?

That's pretty basic knowledge... If you want I can go further into the topic as an RF Electrical Engineer of nearly 30 years in Automotive, and Aerospace and Defense, I have a pretty good handle on how this sh*t works.

Settle down indeed.

That said, it's still not as effective as an IGLA. Period. I understand the need to defend what you have, but it's very old tech.

To OP (anyone) Can I ask what is the IGLA product, that prevents the car from being driven if the pin isn't entered vs the OBDII port lockout so a new key can't be programmed? If they have the first one I mentioned, do you require the OBDII lock out at all?

I've also relocated my "live" OBDII port and it's tucked up and under the dash, and I've mounted an OBDII dongle in it's place. I also shorted wires together hoping it will possibly destroy their theft device.

When I'm not driving my car, I also flashing my car using my cell phone/Bluetooth connected to my MPVI3 device with a "disabling tune" So just think fuel cut-off RPM value and change the value from 7500rpm to like 100rpm! When I'm ready to drive, I flash my regular tune back and drive away as normal! Re-flashing ECM isn't the worse thing, but I'm always looking for alternatives.

I have a question regarding the IGLA system for normal daily operation. Does the system require a code to restart the engine if the car was just running? For example, you are at a red light with a manual transmission car and the light turns green. You are off your game for a moment and stall the engine. Can you just push the start button and go or are you stuck there reentering the code while the person behind you gets even more aggravated? I realize this is only for manual cars.

As the owner of a M6, yep, just hit the button and restart and go.

(Not saying I've ever accidentally stalled in front of a line of traffic... )

One of these days I want to see how long you can turn it off before you have to enter it again...

It only re-arms if you open the door. So if you stall the car you can restart without the code as long as you haven't opened the door. Similar with tuning. If I drive the car, review a log, and make a tune change, I can flash the car and restart it without the code as long I don't open the door.
