Front suspension feel weird
This is my third season doing hpde with my Camaro SS. The first track day of the season, I felt a weird sensation during hard high speed corners. The front end would grip, then lose grip, grip then lose grip during a steady state turn. In the corner it feels like the front oscillatesmaybe half a second of grip, then loses grip then grips again and repeats until I'm out of the corner. It makes the front end bounce a bit and also goes into understeer for those brief moments of less grip. Any idea what's going on here? I have not made suspension changes other than an alignment before the track day. Brand new tires, rotors, proper pressure and lug nut torque. I'm lost. Wheels were balanced too. Maybe I damaged something from curbing or a pothole? Suspension looked fine from under the car and the alignment guy didn't report any issues before the track day. I confirmed the behavior when an instructor took my car out. I can't replicate it unless I'm cornering hard, which isn't happening on the street.

I'm curious if you have any mods? All stock? Tire size too? Nannies on or off? I'd definitely inspect the whole front end first.

Do you have MRC? A 2016 is getting long in the tooth, and MRC shocks aren't as durable as standard ones, failure or partial failure isn't unlikely after 8 to 9 years.

Double check your toe rods. I had the bolt on the knuckle end loosen up a bit. That caused just enough wiggle to induce an oscillation during sustained cornering. If you just had an alignment they probably adjusted the toe and thus loosened the bolts.
Edit: I should mention mine occurred on the rear toe rod. But it gave a similar sensation as you are describing. Last edited by eimarshall; 04-10-2025 at 04:19 PM. |
