ZL1 A10 whistling/whirring sound at idle
Hey everyone,
In the videos posted below you will see the sound my zl1 is making. This only happens at idle. I am still trying to get a better video but this sound of course cannot be replicated in my driveway. So in a drive thru at Starbucks is the best I have. One clip shows a whistling sound and another shows a type of squeaking that a bad tricycle makes or something. I have pulled off the supercharger belt and spun all the pulleys by hand. Is it still under warranty? First owner?
Try it with the AC off, see if that is causing it come and go. The play in the video looked normal. How did the tensioner feel when you moved it to get the belt off? no leak? bolts are tight on it? |

Any change the sound quieting foam was removed from under to blower, could it be the injectors making the noise?

None of the foam has been removed. Also, yeah the car is under warranty, but I do have a tune on it so I assume they will see that and deny it. I can pay for whatever tho lol it's going on a lift tomorrow when I change the oil and I'll check all up underneath as well.

Just sounds like normal rotofab noise to me in the one video, FWIW.

UPDATE:
so i am very sure this was what was making the sound. I was able to eventually get underneath the car WHILE it was making the sound. ended up being the rubber piece slipping off of the fuel line and the exhaust clamp was rubbing and "scoring" it sometimes to where it would sound like a rotating part was squeaking. its been a couple days now and no more noises! https://youtu.be/22-d_xiQ65Y?si=Maos4qy9lZQ4QlhV

I hate to say it, but it freaking came back. Sound is back and it was not the rubber part that slipped off

Why in the hell would GM run a fuel line THAT close to the exhaust??????

Got another UPDATE
I'm very sure that the rattle came from that fuel line BUT I checked that fuel line and it is still not making contact. So sliding that rubber part over to keep the metal from contacting worked. On the other hand, I have sort of been able to pinpoint where the sound is coming from and it's under the car near that SECONDARY catalytic converter and NOT the primary on the driver side. Not sure if something broke loose inside of it. But im not worried about it now because I will be getting headers put on in a few weeks.
