Does Ethanol allow for more boost or less boost??

I’ve been doing a lot of reading and I hear that Ethanol can increase the amount of boost you can run due to keeping the engine cooler but also less boost because fuel systems can’t keep up with it. I’m just super confused on what it depends on? When is it more beneficial to run 93 vs E85 and vice versa?

Is there a point where the boost on 93 would out-way the benefits of Ethanol?

Wow, a lot to unpack here lol!

E85 is ALWAYS BETTER THAN 93… *unless* your fuel system is too small to adequately supply the engine without leaning out (being outside of the injection window). The octane number of E85 is much higher than pump gas so yes, you can run more boost assuming you can move enough fuel…it takes roughly 30% more fuel volume. Running a blend of 93 with E85 can reduce fuel system volume requirements but still give most of the E benefits. For example, the last few years I’ve run E50 which gives most of the E benefit but let my fuel system hang out without leaning out too much lol.

93 will never outperform E, it’s just a matter of making sure you can adequately fuel the engine.

Any boosted application will benefit from Ethanol along as you have the fuel system to support it.

If you upgrade your fuel system to push more fuel then of course you will be able to increase boost no matter if you're on E85 or 93. Now how much power you get will differ as from my experience I had an increase with E85 over 93. It kind of works hand in hand.

The first issue is that you are kind of spamming the forums. You have posted 4-5 different threads indifferent areas when all you needed to do was start 1 thread, stating your setup, goals, and asking any questions you need help with. Instead now your are getting half ass advice from folks that don't know the full story.

The bottom line here is you are still stock bottom end with a 225 cam. At no point will 93 be better than ethanol. You will need to upgrade the fuel system to run E85. If you don't want to blend ethanol down then port Injection makes the most sense. Or you could do a Goliath HPFP and +30 injectors to run full E. With your stock bottom end, I would limit power to 700-720whp(9-10psi). If you want to run pump gas you can, your 225 cam bleeds enough dynamic compression to make it doable to 650-670whp or so. But ideally I would lower compression or just run pump for casual driving, and put some E in when you want to race it.

It's really just that simple.
