Cut-off at 4000rpm. Track Day. 10speed Auto

Hi Guys, i am new here.

I'm experiencing an issue where the car seems to cut off when reaching 4000-5000 RPM while accelerating out of a corner during a track day and also when going down the main straight. It just wont accelerate anymore past this rpm.

I tried searching for similar cases but only found answers related to the M6 transmission, not the 10-speed automatic Camaro 2SS (without the 1LE package).

The car is completely stock and hasn't been tuned. I know this might seem like a silly question considering stock car, but I just want to understand if this behavior is normal and whether tuning is the only solution.

The car can accelerate smoothly under normal conditions on the highway as long as I don't hit the redline.

TIA

To better help you, would help if we had a bit more info from you:

1) What happens at 4000-5000 RPM?
- Is the trans shifting to next gear? Or is the gear held but the engine simply won't rev any higher, regardless of throttle position?

-Is the traction control kicking in and retarding the timing? This will sound like a low pitch groan noise, particularly when you ask for a lot of throttle.

-Or does it sound and feel like you are bouncing off a rev-limiter (like the rev limiter has been lowered to 4000-5000rpm)

2) Are the tire pressure TPMS sensors still working (are you seeing any error messages related to this in the DIC display)?

3) Engine oil level is within hash marks when cold (no low oil condition)?

4) What's the oil pressure reading when you are wide open throttle and just below the 4000-5000 RPM problem point?

Need to know more info about the car, what track and what are you experiencing. Are you getting any codes? Have you changed or checked your ATF level?

Hi Thanks for your reply. I will answer it as per point:

1) It feels like i am bouncing off a rev-limiter (like the rev limiter has been lowered to 4000-5000rpm). This only happens when i drive the car hard in track. If i drive fast and building my speed constantly up to 230km/h (rpm up to 5000-6000) the car works fine.

2) TPMS working normal.

3) Engine oil within hash marks, just done the 70k KM service few days back

4) Oil pressure is a little over 275 mark. slightly over half in the reading if you know what i mean.

But i can say the oil temperature reading is almost 3/4 from the total. maybe around 230-260

The car will not tell you when to change it.

From the High Performance Driving Supplement:
Code:
Transmission fluid should be changed after every 15 hours of track use.

Probably time for a scan tool so you see what the car is doing.
Cutting fuel?
Pulling timing?

Double-tap the traction control button to go into competition mode. I've run into the same issue in my non-1LE car, too. If I forget to go into comp mode or my elbow hits the TC button, the car thinks you're being stupid and will pull power.

Hi everyone, just a quick update — the issue's been solved.

Turns out I messed up my rear wheel alignment during my first few laps on the track. Because of that, the traction control thought I was about to spin out, so it kept stepping in and cutting power.

I never fully turned off traction control that day because, well… I was afraid of doing Mustang things on the track.

So anyway, learned my lesson, hopefully this is a good experience to share as my mechanic also thinks there is something wrong with my electrical
