What fuel system upgrades do I need for boost?
Ive been looking alot and im getting conflicting answers. Im currently FBO E85 with Ported OEM Heads/BTR 225 Cam that has a 32% fuel lobe. I already know what Rods, Pistons I need to get and I want to be able to run 900+ whp. Fueling has been my main roadblock.
Ive heard the LT4 System cant support much more than the LT1 and tops out at around 750 - 800whp, Ive been looking into port injection kits but the prices vary wildly and I dont know exactly where to begin with that. I was looking at the Toohighpsi Port Injection Plates and Injectors but do I need more than that to convert to port injection? Last edited by Saberscar223; 03-18-2025 at 11:10 AM. |

As to your question, while it wouldn't hurt to be on an LT4 fueling system if you're going to run Ethanol, and you should run E, the DI system will only carry the load for the hand-off to the Port Injection system. In theory, you shouldn't have to touch the LT1 system if you're going port injection, as the LT1 system is just to keep the car running. Any real grunt work is going to lean on the port injectors. As far as a parts list, you're going to need a controller for the port injection system, along with in-tank pumps, lines, and hardware. I would really do some reading in that FI Tech section. Particularly if you're tackling this yourself. Talk directly with vendors, as well. Most are eager to help and educate.

What kind of boost are you planning on running? I was able to avoid buying port injection plates by getting an intake manifold with port injection holes already in it. I'm north of 900 with stock LT1 DI components, +38 fuel lobe on the btr cam and deka 80 port injectors. DSX Atlas or Toohighpsi reflex+ are the most popular port contrller options. Something I havent seen mentioned yet with the dsx that the reflex+ has is secondary fuel pump control. You will need this at the power level you're shooting for.

I'm not sure how much hp the OEM hpfp and lpfps will support on Eth, but the OEm hpfp will support close to 1000 wheel using Aux. lpfp on race gas.

LT4 only on race gas. Pump gas 850. E85 700. Blend the E down to 50% and you can make close to 800 with the LT4.
Unless you specify what type of fuel you want to run the answers you will receive will be like a lotto machine spitting out numbers.

Is it safe to say you lose flex fuel availability when you go boost? Or can you run Flex Fuel with boosted applications regardless of E content?

The amount of E you can or should run will vary depending on the specific setup and desired boost/power.

![]() False. These differ from the Mustangs in that regard. On these cars you run a flex sensor that will read E content and add timing accordingly (or retard it with 93). If you’re making big power I’d advise a Smoothboost so that you can dial down boost when you’re on crap gas.

No not at all. I have been running a flex fuel sensor with boost since 2019. Depending on fuel system and power level you might have to blend the Ethanol percent down to keep the fuel system happy. E40-60 is really plenty of octane anyway until you get over 1100whp. I run E60 with +30 injectors, LPE HPFP, LT4 tank pump with a JMS. The car makes around 700whp. Stock motor with a blower(10-11psi), fuel system, bolt-ons. Pretty simple combo that will get you around 140mph in the 1/4 mi with a drag pack.

I'd rather stay away from a tuned E content, would rather stick with flex fuel if possible.

Do you understand what he meant by "tuned" E60 vs "flex fuel" E60? There is no difference on this platform, you have to tune the car if you want to use >10% ethanol...
