Big red was an influence years ago with a 67 Camaro that I road raced and ran to 10.0 in the qtr with a little help from nitrous.
Planning a very similar build with this 69. Will be using a th400; 3.50 gears, 28” tires and a gear vendors setup.
We’re hoping the 540 comes in around 800bhp and then some kind of power adder. Everything is much more expensive than it was 25 years ago when I was running the 67.

Reality is if the Mohave magnum mile (1.5 miles) was still going I think we could hit 200. In just one mile it may take more $ and hp then I want to throw at it but we’ll easily hit the 10.0 in the qtr with the build and hopefully 170-175 in the 1/2 mile as those venues are easy to find.
The 69 is not known for its aerodynamics so it takes a boatload of power to make it happen. Maybe more then I’m ready to throw retirement savings at but we’ll do the other venues-rr, 1/4 & 1/2 and enjoy the heck outa it.

It would take less hp if we could change the rear gear

Wouldnt the initial launch also play a pretty big factor? I know it is not time but the shorter distance to get to speed the faster younshould be at the end

No. But it always feels better with a no-spin launch.

This 69 has gotten EXPENSIVE!!! Although I bought the 17 ZL1 for cheap as a restored salvage car and at $55,000 total for roughly 875rwhp this 69 cost has gone right on by that and not in a good way. Still haven’t had it to any track events but at least it’s at the last stop for tuning and completion hopefully by the end of May.

After reading up on the requirements to get the first gen Camaros down the track it appears they like to go flying about 175mph so not willing to spend the additional cost to streamline it I’m setting it up for mid 9’s @ 140mph+ in the 1/4 and 170mph in the 1/2 mile (as some of you know the Gila bend 1/2 mile went away recently) as well as road racing.

With the 17 ZL1 it was much easier to get setup to accomplish all those rather easily. This 69 Camaro not so much. Compromises in several areas, but engine with a little n20, fuel injection and wilwood brakes all around should get us there with a much more raw experience which I actually missed with the ZL1.

Finding venues to run these cars out is getting harder. If there was a 1.5 mile race out west I’d go borrow the ZL1 and chase the 200mph but I think I’m gonna shoot for 175mph on the 69 as a top speed and call it good.
