Would low tire pressure cause "limp mode" and stabilitrak warning? 2016 1SS
Hey, all! 2016 1SS M6. I went to drive my car today and it turns out there was a nasty nail in the tire.. tire barely at 4 PSI. I used a pump to fill it up to over 30 PSI, but when starting the car (to properly power the pump) it gave me a service stabilitrak warning message.
While driving carefully to the tire shop, the exhaust sounded pretty quiet. I have the NPP open with fuse pulled on aftermarket muffler (not sure what brand, last owner put them on.) I didn't notice any difference in throttle response or power, but the exhaust sounded like 40% quieter than I'm used to the entire drive. I will be getting tires installed tomorrow, but I was wondering if maybe the car went in to a safety mode from detecting the incredibly low PSI? (Which didn't seem to matter, because the throttle felt the same, other than more frustrating "lag" when trying to heel/toe throwing off my rhythm, which I thought was just my imagination from the sound difference.) I don't think TPMS readings can cause a limp mode/stabilitrak error.

Thank you. I haven't seen it come on since (about 5 power cycles) and the exhaust sounds normal.
Maybe no issue at all, and if it comes up again... maybe the battery going out and upsetting sensors? I'll need to start chasing the low hanging fruit. lol Anyways, thanks for the reply! Last edited by Glow01; 02-23-2025 at 08:37 PM. |

The flat tire can. But you would have had to drive on it flat. The abs will detect a difference in rotational speed of the flat tire vs the others.
Also a pull caused by a flat tire will cause it because the steering torque/angle sensor will be off from fighting the wheel to drive straight |

I agree with bishopts. If you drove on it for a bit while it was semi-flat, it could detect a problem and report the stabilitrak error. But from wake-up just starting, i would think just tpms warning. I've had a screw in the tire and woke up to a flat. Just got the tpms warning, no stabilitrak. I did not drive on the flat, since car was already in garage I just fixed it. |

He's referring not to TPMS but the actual computer noticing a large difference in rotational speeds between wheels(not TPMS related). |

If you run with one or more of the four TPMS sensors below the threshold operating range which on the ZLE is <24PSI, it will indeed affect ESC & PTM and put you into reduced power if the situation is severe enough to do so. You can run with ALL TPMS sensors missing, like you can do for track wheels, but if the sensors are reading and below programmed thresholds, it will induce related restrictions.

Indeed correct. If you have a signal from ALL the TPMS sensors everything will be okay, if you have NO signal from all the sensors everything will be okay, but if you are missing 1 or 3 sensors, the Stabilitrak system assumes there is a problem and intervenes quite aggressively. I speak from personal experience and if you do a search you will find others who can attest to this. __________________ 2018 Hyper Blue Metallic 2SS 1LE with Nav, PDR, and track alignment
