Need a programmer for exhaust valves
Hello, I live in a small town where people don’t much more than know a Camaro has an engine much less what NPP exhaust is. I’m looking for a scanner/programmer that will allow me to put the exhaust actuators back on my car, I don’t have the original ones so I’ll have to set up the ones I get but I don’t see the need to get HP Tuner just to set the values, and the scanner would be handy if the car ever has issues. Any help is appreciated.
I’ve posted about getting the actuators in another post that just turned into a confusing mess and I’m hoping this is just a cut and dry question and answer. I read on the Corvette Forum that a Creader Elite would do it but when I contacted someone that sold them I was told “No” it won’t do anything like that. |

That depends if the car was tuned to remove the npp valves/codes? If so, no hand held will undo that. You will need HPTuners or a factory reflash for the CCM.
If you removed your actuators and the car has just been setting a code and then you need to put the actuators back on, clear the check engine light/codes, and re-calibrate the actuator position, then there are hand helds that can do this. Very important distinction between the two scenarios above. Hand Held will not flash your CCM and restore functionality if you had it flashed to remove npp before.

I’m not getting a CEL, but I’m pretty sure the car has been tuned.
I have read you can unhook the NPP actuators and not get a CEL, but you can’t unhook the AFM valves without getting a CEL. |

Pretty sure you will get a code if either the AFM or NPP is unplugged. At least on the later model Gen V stuff you do.

You will get a code for both. If you want to delete any of them then they need to be turned off via Hptuners. Hence why Some aftermarket exhausts(MBRP) that delete the NPP function have brackets for the valves to operate even though they don't do anything.

I have read on other forums there is a handheld bidirectional programmer that allows you to set up the actuators, but I can’t figure out which one or ones they are. HPtuner is more than I can spend right now having to buy the exhaust and actuators to get things going again. From what I’ve seen HPTuner software is free but the stuff needed to use it is where the cost comes in.

The CCM can be customized with HP Tuners. No way of knowing unless you pull the CCM file and look at it. But if they are moving when you put into stealth mode, you at least know they weren't "deleted" in the tune anywhere. It's still possible they were customized. I tune the CCM's often for clients who want the modes to behave differently than stock. Stealth Mode and Tour mode, the valves will be closed most of the time, even with the car off but key on. Sport and Track will be open most of the time and even with the car off but key on. They do close in higher gears in Sport and Track mode but they are different to a degree with sport closing sooner than Track.

Well at least I know now that my money wasn’t wasted buying a set of mufflers with valves and actuators, maybe once I get them installed I can hear what they are doing while driving and can tell if they are working or not.

Been looking into this myself, going to run full 3 inch exhaust. Is this where i turn it all off to not get codes?
(system), (general), (active exhaust) then tune to keep open perminently? |

I can’t help you with that, I only have the software and without the dongle it’s useless. I was hoping I could familiarize myself with the software before getting the complete setup, but it doesn’t work that way.

Well, I guess I’m going to go see if the dealership will check the NPP exhaust valve settings on my car. Driving around it seems they are either open all the time or closed all the time depending on the selection I make. Stealth is quiet and touring, sport, track sound to be open all the time. Still would like to find a scanner that can be used to set them or is HPTuner my only hope?
