Thanks all for your responses. I think that to avoid the issues of PI, I'd be most likely to go with either LT4 HPFP (or a Katech Goliath) & Injectors, over low comp GPI drop ins rods/pistons kit.
I feel that will be an advantage when it comes to install & tuning over Port injection, not having to run supplementary fuel rails, low side pumps & lines, etc. and not having the hood clearance issues.

Also, will the Goliath work off the OEM LT1 Cam?

Maybe Mike will also chime in, but Goliath will work with stock cam (although you’ll get more fuel by running a bigger cam lobe, just like any HPFP). It uses OEM high pressure lines too. It’ll work with any LTx injectors too. Probably good for 10-15% fuel flow over stock LT4 HPFP with a stock cam. No brainer upgrade if you’re doing DI only. But I’d suggest bigger injectors too if you want to take advantage of what the Goliath can do.

If you want a stock cam profile, then at least get the BTR big fuel stock cam while it's apart. It's basically L86/LT1 specs with a 32% fuel lobe. The bigger fuel lobe will allow much more potential from whatever HPFP you go with. Imo the Goliath doesn't gain you anything over the LT4 since you will be octane limited to around 800-850whp on 93. I would do Big Fuel stock cam, LT4 HPFP, +30 injectors, and a low side.

I'm considering cam options but wanting to know this fuel system can work with OEM profile if I decide not to unpack the issues of valve train upgrade/stability/valves/pushrods. Although the revised fuel lobe would be a must have I guess, as would be new lifters and dod delete if a new cam is going in anyway. I think the Goliath is still a better choice than stock LT4 HPFP in case I decide in the future to run it on E85 (if our availability improves) and gain that little bit of headroom. Realistically if I could be at 800/850whp (close enough to 1000 crank) then I'd be super happy with that. One other question - and I hugely appreciate your input on this topic for me - what's the most appropriate low side solution in your opinion? I like the sound of the Katech dual pump in tank returnless module. It seems a good option, they say it's plug & play, however I have no real knowledge on that front or whether an external controller for the secondary pump is a hassle to tune/set up.

Tuning for the Katech pump module was fairly easy. There are lots of videos you can pay to watch and learn from, but once you get the idea on what you need to change, just driving it, logging, and tuning isn't a big deal. With what I'm using, there isn't a big spike in pressure when the aux' pump kicks-in, and I have the ability to ramp it in easier and run it just enough to stay ahead of what the fuel system needs. It's definitely more involved than the other solutions out there, and I'm fine with that.

I have no experience but from what I am hearing the dual in tank pump solution seems to be working pretty well.

It's a little more expensive but I'm really liking the sound of the DSX low side solution. Drop it in and go. Returnless, keeps stock siphon capabilities, keeps stock lines, and apparently supplies 1000rwhp+.

Ditto. I feel that the more the overall fuelling arrangement - either LS or HS - follows the OEM principles, the more it seems like the right approach.
