When I got my free oil change at 500 miles they had torqued the oil drain plug and oil filter to insane numbers. Doing it myself now.

Just called my local dealer, $268 for an oil change? That's insulting.

Do it yourself is the answere.
Stealerships have insane prices, nothing new. You pay like 200-300% on material and then for a working hour as well.

Dealer (Serra Chevrolet, Nashville) did my ZL1 0/40 oil change two weeks ago. Right at $150.

I've been a lazy-ass for several years and have had a shop do all my oil changes. After retiring and taking almost 2-1/2 years to "recover" from all the job stress, I finally found it in me to resume doing my own maintenance.

Average cost for an oil change on my 5th Gen V6 and my 6th Gen V6 was ~ $145 (6 qts AMSOIL XL 5W30 + AC Delco filter +labor). This past New Year's day, I did my own oil change for ~ $75 (6 qts Valvoline Restore and Protect + Fram Ultra Synthetic filter).

Rear differential service: $130 shop VS $50 DIY. Transmission drain & fill on my wife's Ford Escape: shop $200 VS $60 DIY

DIY benefits: Peace of mind knowing it was done right, no waiting to make an appointment, significant savings.
