Arrow What are YOUR highest Oil Temperatures ???

I was speaking to a new client yesterday, and he had been seeing 300F on his oil temps with a 2019 ZL1! I am excited to see his results with our Stage.III Oil Cooler package but it had me thinking...

What are the HIGHEST Oil Temps you have seen on the track?

I haven’t been monitoring oil temps, like I probably should …. there’s only so many things you can look at when going 9/10th.

But, I have also heard of others saying they hit 300F. While I realize that today’s synthetic oils can handle higher temps, I would throw money at a solution if I saw more than 260F. Just my opinion.

290-300F at Road America if it's warmer than like 70F. A10.

290° and then let off the throttle. After adding an oil cooler max temp was 257°. Running an universal Mishimoto oil cooler, DIY custom built.
HPTuners shows 311° as limit, if temp is reached it alerts.
For myself, everything above 270° is too hot.

(ZL1, A10 with 1LE struts and aero + impact bar removed)

Holy crap I did not expect to see an SS 1LE hit those temps. From my understanding 270 degrees is the SS high but maybe because you have an A10 it’s higher?

Yep, the A10 keeps both the LT1 and LT4s more wound up.

I wonder if this is why later MY LT1’s have been blowing up more at track recently. Insufficient oil cooling for the A10 cars and the A10 wasn’t available until MY 2021.

Interesting. I wonder if this is only possible to reach on a manual where you have full control. Back when it was a 95F day at Road America, I would reach 300F within 2 laps and the ECM/TCM would start short shifting once it reached 300F. Using Pi Toolbox to analyze my PDR data, engine oil temp never exceeded 300/301 F. This is the only time I've had abnormal transmission shifting events. I changed my transmission fluid myself last time, so I know it's properly filled.

Sounds like trans fluid level was incorrect. My first attempt at changing my fluid yielded short shifting on track. I drained about 8oz at a different temp threshold and never had another problem.

Agree. My stock A10 SS 1LE runs about 8 to 10F higher than my stock M6 ZL1 1LE if same track / same temperature comparison.

Are you using a ZLE pan? I was using the standard ZL1 pan when I did have the short shifting events. When I changed the fluid myself, I swapped to the ZLE pan.

The ZLE pan has a shorter standoff tube than all of the other A10 pans, so it already takes less fluid. I can't exactly find how much less fluid it takes at the moment. I'm not using the 212F level check as a result because the ZLE pan did not exist at the point those instructions came out and I don't want to be under filled.

The ~212F check is because of the in built thermostat in the transmission cooling system. Pre-Facelift uses a higher thermostat.
Facelift, 2019 and newer running a cooler thermostat 167F. So it's primarily not really about the fluid level.
