Lime Rock Decibel Limit question
Hello and Happy new year. Was wondering if someone with experience at lime rock could help me decide whether or not I can go there. The organization I do track days with has an option for Lime Rock in July however I saw there’s a decibel limit for that track.
Has anyone here run at lime rock on a MUFFLED DAY (they have unmuffled days as well) and not gotten kicked off for being too loud? I’m a bit worried that a stock SS/SS 1LE is too loud and I won’t be able to sign up for that event. 86 DB is the limit.

86db is nothing. My car is way over that.

I have ran at LimeRock multiple times on muffled days with my SS1LE and no issues. Stock engine and NPP exhaust, in track mode. It was definitely not the loudest car out there.
LimeRock is a great track. Have fun.

Thanks guys. I was worried because I read our cars stock record over 90db but I’m guessing it depends on how far away you are from the mic. Someone recorded my car at Watkins Glen from the stands and you can barely hear my stock SS 1LE NPP exhaust from the stands haha.

Yes, the sound pressure level reduces the further from the source. You need to know the distance from your car the track is taking the reading in order to do your own measurements.
The stock exhaust really isn't that loud and you'll be fine at most tracks with sounds restrictions. I've also run autocross at Devens Airfield in Ayer, MA and they are very strict about noise there due to neighbor complaints. The restriction there is 87dB @ 75' and I had no issue. And like at LimeRock, my car was not the loudest there. Some of the louder cars were running clamp on turndown exhaust tips to help with noise.

Completely agree! Is it because of idiots that buy a house 100 yards from a track then complain about the noise? Same as those that complain about a gun range when they buy a house next to one. Even though in most cases the track (and gun range) has been their LONG before there were any houses next to it.

It's becoming more of an issue over time as more houses get built and tracks are closing down all over the place. We unfortunately have to play the game and make sure our cars aren't too loud so we can continue to have these tracks available to us. Stinks it has to be this way though. At certain tracks or autocross venues, the houses were there first, and the sounds restrictions were part of the deal to get approval to build the track or use the space for autocross. Palmer, MA is one example. If that's what it takes to get a new track built, that's fine.

Awesome. I believe you run NASA as well and it seems like NASA only runs on muffled days. Planning to sign up for the July event.

No experience running there with NASA. I would ask in their regional facebook group or in their discord. |

No experience at Lime Rock, but if you're worried about it, you might be able to get away with lifting-off-the-throttle when driving past the sound test station(s).
