Red face 2023 SS manual Transmission 2nd gear

I have 7k miles on my SS. BOUGHT IT USED with 5K. Noticed small crunch noise shifting to second when I got it . No other gear shifting problems. Recently the crunch is really crunchy and there’s a screachhhhhh when shifting to 2nd. It goes into 2nd easily just noisily. ( I’ve tried high low rpm etc same noise. The clutch is all the way down. I always shift to 4th override when they ask me to no problem. ) what can I try next?

Change your fluid. My SS has now has 75k miles and shifts like butter, always had but I still changed my fluid once around 45 or 50k miles.

You're under warranty. Make an appointment with the Chevy service department. If it always happens, they should be able to repeat the issue.

Sounds like maybe the 2nd gear synchro? I wonder if the car was ran hard and had a lot of 1-2 powershifts or something. I know Tremec has had issues with synchros in the past, the 5th gen was more notorious for it. But even on my car, which I baby, 1-2 has always been the "least smooth" gear change so to speak. It's worse in the cold, but usually before I leave the garage I do a 1st through 4th shift pattern and that helps too. After driving for a bit it tends to go away.

This. Don't monkey around with it otherwise they'll blame you for the issue. While the TR6060 is one of the better shifting manual transmissions it is not unheard of for them to have grinding issues when shifting from first to 2nd especially in the cold. This has been a problem since it first came out in 2007 in the GT500.

Leave the car with them overnight so that it is more likely to happen. Dealers love to get out of not doing warranty work.

I get a crunchy noise when it's cold and I'm wiggling the shifter in any gear. Like if i go from one gear to another or just move it a little within the same gear. But mine is just the rubber shifter boot under the console. Eventually i will lube it.

You're not alone, I have the same problem and it is somewhat common and cold weather makes it worse. If you're still under warranty then take it to the dealer but don't expect miracles. Go to the transmission section and see my post titled "stock ss shifter", it is a good discussion. Shifting thru the pattern on initial startup helps me and also making the first couple of shifts going from 1st to 3rd helps too but again if I had warranty I would take mine back.

What does everyone mean by "crunchy"? Like, it grinds going into the gear? Or something else?

I would describe mine as "notchy" I guess. Sometimes it just doesn't want to go into the gear (mainly when cold), but it doesn't grind or "crunch" anything. Will just stick for a second or two then slot in like normal. Or I shift into another gear and go back to the intended one.

I think a lot of problems stem from cold fluid, but as for the OP, I think he needs the dealer to see what's going on because it seems to be more than just that.

I don't necessarily get a crunch so to speak, but until I'm driving a bit 2nd can be tough to get into unless you go back into neutral and try again. The other gears aren't as bad. Sometimes reverse makes a squeak sound too.

Most manuals are crunchy from 1 - 2 due to the gear ratio, my M6 shifted like a tractor on cold days. Changed to Royal Purple Syncromax, transformative. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

ive heard a lot of good things about royal purple syncromax. i was thinking of swapping to that if i ever drain my fluid.
seems like most people in this forum dont actually work on their own cars. just because the most common response to any tech question is "you need to go see your dealer"

Not saying with 100 % certainty in your case, but if a hot shoe owned the car before you, he likely enjoyed banging second - hard. Let GM inspect it and be prepared to beg a little, if necessary.
