Neighbor came to tell me they tried to steal their 6th gen

What a messed up story. Been in this house for 3 years. Neighbor about 7 houses down has a 6th gen V6. They park it on the side of the house (they are on the corner). Apparently 2 nights ago, they smashed out the window pushed it down the street, and attempted to steal. I guess they couldnt get it to start but somehow disabled their keyfobs. My FIFTY which you can see in my sig is pretty badass. It sits in my driveway year round because I have a C7 and C8 equally modded in the garage. There have been plenty of nights where I have forgot to lock the doors of the car and never expected anything like this. I have never talked to these neighbors so for the fact the man walked to my house to let me know is cool as hell. Now it has me concerned.

Thieves break a window and plug into the OBD port. Then they reprogram a fake key and drive away. It’s interesting that the thieves only drove a few blocks with your neighbor’s car.

Here is one of many threads that discuss anti theft devices and tactics for our cars.

Put the auto lock feature on so you never forget.

Where were these events? "in front of the location" means nothing...

Maryland, residential. Note the time. This is from a community police report.

The take away is, It's all over.

I haven't posted this yet but eventually I want to with pictures. My 18 ZL1 was parked in the Dillard's parking lot at the Woodlands Texas mall the day before Thanksgiving. When I came out to my car a couple hours later the passenger window was broken out and I am guessing the only reason my car wasn't stolen is because it's a manual.

I was already paranoid how and where I park this car and still got hit. The location of where I parked also has a TON of traffic all around the car and they STILL tried.

If you are not using a multi-layered theft prevention system (visible to hopefully deter any initial attempt and invisible to prevent them from actually getting it) you are likely to have your car stolen if you park it in any opportune locations for any length of time... I'm not going to disclose all of my theft protection installed, but this is merely the tip of the iceberg... Basically a warning shot across the bow saying "This one isn't going to be easy, what you see is only a fraction of what you are up against to get this car..." I'm hoping that is enough they will move on to something easier before doing any damage... But if they try to go beyond what they see, they are going to be so confused on what is going on and won't be able to figure out why things aren't working when they look like they should, they aren't going to know what to think except the car isn't starting and the clock is ticking...

Very basic, visible, "Step 1"...

Well said CAPT. Not saying all the thieves are of this generation but since some folks don't want to get involved these thieves seem to feel invincible. They see your set-up as a challenge and use my generations, "hold my beer." BTW is that the Club?

So glad my car is not a daily driver and NEVER out of my sight when driven. If I have to go to the store or run some errand, I take one of my other vehicles that no one would even take a second glance at. Sad that's the society we live in now.

Yes, they are both from "The Club", about $80 total or so...

Yeah, mine spends 99% of it's time in a locked garage, but I do occasionally take it for lunch, so it does sit for a bit outside of view on rare occasions...

Just curious, are they keyed the same, sold as a set?

Step 1, visual deterrents as shown.
Step 2, dummy OBDII port with a lock on it
Step 3, fuel pump relay, IGLA professional install, or my starter relay de-activation DIY setup (in the DIY section).
