Are you still having this issue?

Mine just did this for the first time randomly driving home this evening.

It has never done this before and I've always had my headlights on auto and it happened after I had been driving with the lights on for awhile. The dash/ip brightness didn't increase until i pulled into my garage and i turned the car off and then on again.

A timely resurrection of this topic, which was also just discussed in another recent thread. (https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620326)

I just had a particularly annoying instance of this issue yesterday, leaving my office around 5:20 pm and never getting out of the "long afternoon shadows" for enough time to trigger the dash lighting back to daytime mode during my hour-long commute home. I do think I partially caused this by starting the car to get the AC going before removing the sun shade, which made the sensor think it was darker out than it was. I am thinking if I remove the sun shade before starting the car in those conditions, I may not start out with a dark dash.

The level of lighting to trigger the dash back to daylight seems to be too conservative, in terms of the brightness and duration of light required to automatically revert to daytime mode, as shown by this case where it was plenty light out after I removed the sun shade and was driving home (and which I've also seen after going through an underpass late in the afternoon and having the dash get stuck in the "dark" mode).

That's another potential factor I hadn't considered - I always drive with my headlights on. I wonder if I switch to auto, or switch the auto mode off using the headlight switch, if that would restore the daytime brightness. I will give that a try...

I did mess around with the headlight settings on the stalk and nothing changed.
After reading this thread and the one you linked, this seems to be another frustrating GM quirk.

Trigger - If you still own your ZL1, I have the same car and it does the same thing. Really frustrating GM. I've told the dealership but they want to see the car and I don't live near them. They also say 100k ppl would have to complain until they wrote new firmware to update it. So the info system Auto Dimming "Day/Night" choices don't override the system. I have found a solution which is a bit convoluted but it works. I bought an LED puck, rechargeable, painted it black, attached 1/2" weather stripping around the lit area so it can sit on top of that sensor in the middle of the dash way up front. It makes the sensor think the sun is out and brightens up the displays. Cheers if you can make your own version. Tell others too.
