Question suddendly center infotainment only displays rear camers

This car is about a month new to me, 2018 2SS 1LE.

I have not driven it much due to weather and the tires, but I have been doing other things to it and had no issues until today.

I got new tires and wheels and installed them myself on the car.
I bought a tpms relearn tool and followed the steps and that worked.

I figured why not go for a drive.
The infotainment display will not show anything but the rear camera when the car is on/running, whether driving or sitting in the shop.

Initially it did not play any music.

At one point I got the normal screen with all the icons to show up, car was in accessory mode, and I got the radio to play. Once I started the car, back to rear camera only.
However, the radio now plays and I can change the station or volume normally.

I do not think it has anything to do with it, but my trial of OnStar ended a few days ago, no plans to renew it either.

I did do a few full start/off cycles, opened the doors, locked/unlocked the car.
Nothing else seems to be wrong - modes work, all electrical works, dash cluster works, etc.

Very strange...

If the radio consistently comes on in accessory or service mode (short vs long press on the start button without pressing the brake or clutch pedal), then it likely isn't physical wire or fuse damage from, say, water intrusion in the trunk or chafed wires.

If not, then I'd check all wires around both fuse boxes for damage or rust, contacts on the battery etc. The battery, if still the original unit, is likely tired and low voltage can cause various electrical gremlins, although a weak battery would also cause starter issues and you didn't mention that.

Reading codes using an OBD-II dongle and posting them would be very helpful either way, it's impossible to diagnose a modern car without this info.

New battery when I bought the car, dealer left the negative loose and we drove it home 400+ miles that way.

I added the extra ground.
It is on a battery tender/trickle charger.
It is in a shop, no water or signs of that in the trunk area when I did some other things in there recently.
I do have a code reader and will check to see if there is anything there. I thought about that, but since it does work figured there were no codes.

I have seen some videos showing that pressing the white OnStar speaker button makes a difference and opening and closing the door, neither made a difference.

Most codes are stored for a while even if everything works at the moment, so hopefully you'll find something there.

I had this happen when experimenting with LED reverse lamp bulbs. This is due to their low resistance and they require a resistor in the circuit to simulate the resistance of the factory incandescent bulbs. Have a look at your reverse lamp bulbs. If they are LEDs, swap in some incandescent bulbs and see if the problem remains.

I have swapped in the Morimoto tail lamp assemblies, but that has been almost 3 weeks with no issues.

I guess I can unplug them and see what happens.

It is the Morimoto tail light!!
This same one had the reverse light slightly on when I installed it, but went away within a few ignition cycles.

Well, it is back and that seems to be the cause.
Unplugged the tail light and the rear view camera still remained on.
Plugged in the OEM tail light and back to normal.
Plugged the Morimoto in and back to the issue.

I will see how this goes with the place I bought it. Seems like their policy is "you bought it, now deal with it", but maybe I am wrong/misread it.

Heck, it's not even 30 days old and I reported the issue within a couple days of receiving it.

If you are stuck with the aftermarket tail lights, check out:

https://www.gen5diy.com/

They make all kinds of harnesses and adapters. I didn't see anything specific for adapting aftermarket taillights for a 2016-2018 Camaro but these resistors may help:

https://www.gen5diy.com/collections/...sistor-upgrade

Give them a call and see what they suggest. I have purchased from them in the past and they are good to deal with.

There is a similar item on each of the tail lights already.

It looks like they are 50 Watt.

Looks like there might be something additional for the 2018+ according to this site.
