I’ve had this problem now twice in two weeks.

Both times it has occurred during warm up, it has never happened while on the road. What happens is this; I crank the car, and while waiting for the high idle to settle down, it just quits. When I try to restart, it turns over very strong, but makes no attempt to fire. Both times this has happened, and I gave up on cranking it and just got out and locked the door, I noticed the headlights won’t go out. Also both times, I came back an hour later, hit the button and it turned over very slow, like the battery was low (I’m assuming because the lights stayed on) but then it starts, and will run like a sewing machine until it happens again!

Any ideas?

Are you on the original battery? These cars do weird things when the battery is on the way out.

Agree...battery test is in order, especially if this is the OE unit.
