Well, around the world a LOT of people do watch F1. And now you do know at least one person that watches F1 and that one person knows people that travel to see F1 races. It's kind of like the people on here and other places "no one wants an EV", yet the number one selling car in the world last year was.............an EV.

NASCAR viewership is less than half of its peak from nearly 20 years ago. Here is Daytona viewership the last 50 years and it's not looking good.

I'm sure the money is still there, as someone bought a team charter for $40,000,000 so it's certainly far from dead. It's just not growing and has no real path to get back to the Daryl, Dale, Jimmie and Jeff days. The car GM will race next year is no longer in production.

I don't think Nascar Cup car racing specifically helps the individual model beyond the brand. If GM accounted the Nascar spend against the Camaro that's a shame.

There are other countries in the world besides America and GM sells vehicles in those countries. Folks in those countries watch F1. I’d argue more Americans watch F1 than NASCAR as well. NASCAR is mainly watched in a specific region of America. When F1 comes here for a race the tickets are way more expensive and sell out right away.

The best seats I ever got to a sporting event was nascar because the tickets were cheap enough for me to “splurge” for closer seats.

Impractical may be true, but I've read here and elsewhere that some Gen6 Camaros have rolled the odometer as daily drivers.
When I wanted to buy my first Corvette in 1969, Dad told me that the 63 I was looking at for $1850 would be impractical and lousy in the snow. I took his advice and passed on it.
Today that same car can bring between 60 and 130K.

As someone who used to watch NASCAR, I don't know anyone who still watches. Their format changes ruined the series.

Been watching F1 at the same time as NASCAR in the past, just not as closely as I have for the last 20 years. Everyone I know watches F1 now, Netflix effect most recently.

Most cars are bad investments, and if you invested in traditional markets you will likely beat the best of them, including your example. The historic rate of return of the S&P 500 since 1929 averages to 9.09%. If you invested that $1850 in 1963 it could likely be worth around $147k today and if you re-invested the dividends it has the potential to be worth over $800k.

Good grief, now we should frequent this forum for financial advice. We're all car guys here ( many are already pretty well financially healed) so you might want to troll your advice elsewhere.
Enjoy your "CAR" .

While you are a fellow auto enthusiast and a very knowledgeable forum contributor I do not know you personally. Most of the individuals I associate with are of a similar demographic as myself: Blue collar mechanics that grew up in the '80s wrenching on tired old mucle cars. Some of my friends can barely pay their mortgage much less travel for ANY type of entertainment so an F1 race is not even an option. Nothing wrong with F1, heck I'll even watch it if it's on the tube because it's talented drivers driving very fast! I just won't follow it. F1 is kinda like the auto racing version of soccer. Extraordinary athletes participating in a challenging game. The rest of the world goes crazy for it but here in the US while it is obviously becoming more popular it still lags behind the major traditional sports. Times are-a-changing but saying NASCAR is "finished" is a bit premature.

Please, you brought up buying a car as an "investment", not me. The only way it would fetch anywhere close to the kind of money you mentioned is if it spent its life as a garage queen. You know, not being enjoyed...

I have loved my gen6 as my daily for the last 4 years and 74 k miles. It's comfortable, looks and drives great. The mustangs I've driven are not good driving cars and I'm sure a charger is not. A Miata would drive good but would be impractical to me.

No I didn't. Anyone who reads my original post can plainly see that I was not talking investment.

I agree with most here that GM’s significant investment in corvette make a 7th gen ICE Camaro much less likely regardless of which direction they go on EV’s. Their goal is to steer ICE coupe buyers in that direction.

That said, i would prefer the Z/ Eray ‘widebody’ styling with the LT4 vs. the high revving 5.5… that would close the deal for me from a performance and reliability perspective.

Sure, let's revisit it.

You had decades to buy one if you truly wanted it. Instead you talked about how much they're worth now as to why you regret not purchasing one.
