17 Camaro Vibration Problem

I have a few problems with my 2017 camaro fifty not sure if all of them have to do with just one thing. The major problem is that at highspeeds the car vibrates, whats weird about it is that it doesnt always vibrate one week it vibrates around 90+ the next week you wont feel it till your going around 120+ sometimes ive even felt it around 80 not sure if its a wheel issue. Another problem is that when i make a turn sometimes i hear a clicking sound, thats usually when i beat the car. another problem is that i sometimes hear the car squeak when im on low speeds kind of like if it was my springs. last but not least when i turn off the car theres like a loud exhaust cooling noise not sure if its actually the exhaust or maybe it also has to do with my suspension. but again these are problems that come and go so thats why im super confused, just bought the car its fully stock i already have a couple boltons i want to install but this is setting me back might have to take the car to the dealership for warranty, any info helps guys thank you in advance.

The exhaust cooling down noises is normsl for some models. I have the same on my 2018.

Vibrate where? The steering wheel? The actual car itself? If it's like shaking at the steering wheel and it is only present at high speeds, your wheels need to be re balanced. Have you replaced your springs with aftermarket? The low speed squeak sounds suspension related.

Not 100% sure if it exhaust cooling down it just makes like a loud one time metal clink around every 10 seconds sometimes it does it when i turn it on also, the vibration is not the steering wheel i feel like its the whole car ive the faster the more you feel it ive let the car slow down by itself on neutral the less speed the less you feel it but it is forsure there. i still have fully stock suspension with the magnetic ride. this thing is hard to explain since its only on and off i feel like if it was a wheel/tire problem it will always be there.

Vibration at different speeds is likely your wheels/tires. Balance can change with temperature which may explain the inconsistent vibration. Best thing to do is have the wheels road-force balanced. You can look online for places that can do that.

Other noises sound normal.

Thank you, always thought temperature had something to do with it. I got my wheels balanced a few months ago i felt it less as soon as i drove the car but again it came back... Maybe its the FIFTY wheels?? i dont know at this point ill try to convince my bud to let me borrow his wheels just for a test drive.

  • You had me laughing at the bolded sections of your post - this is hilarious!
  • Regarding the vibration, I will just add that I once had a similar problem on my 1999 M3 Convertible, and the root cause was a bent wheel rim. The streets of San Francisco can hide some enormous pot holes. I hope the person who balanced your wheels might have been "qualified" to judge if your rim was bent.
  • Regarding the clicking, there is a post about incorrect torquing of lug nuts from the factory - I believe the proper value was 140 ft-lbs. This ticking while the wheel was turned was driving me nuts in my apartment parking garage, which involves a 4 floor journey up and around in a circle. Half the time it was just ticking, the other half there was either a screw or rock in the tire that was tapping on rotation. I had them retorqued, but I cannot honestly say if it's better.tire
  • Good luck amigo!

Wheel Nut Torque? 140 ft/lbs?

The ticking from wheels when turning is rust build up on the wheel where it meets the hub. Sand all the points where the wheel would touch the hub (including the inside part of the wheel). Then mount your wheels and torque to spec. You can out a small dab of anti sieze or very small amount of brake grease there and it will prevent it from happening longer.

The "clicking while turning" issue:

The problem is oxidation that grows at the hub/wheel interface. It becomes a fulcrum and causes the wheel to rock & make the clicking noise as it rotates when under cornering loads.

DIY solution:
1. remove wheel
2. clean wheel & hub mating surfaces with a wire brush... scrub off the oxidation.
3. wipe both wheel and hub clean with a good cleaning solution (I use CRC Brake cleaner). You need to get them very clean.
4. apply a VERY THIN layer of white lithium grease to the mating surfaces.
5. re-mount wheel and torque to 140 ft-lbs.

I'm having the exact same problem. Took into shop, they confirmed shuddering. Recommending fluid service and TCM reflash. However, they aren't sure whether that's even going to fix it or not. They're saying they "dont have enough data to condemn the transmission" yet. I do have an extended warranty, but I highly doubt they will cover a fluid service. I don't want to sink $800 into a repair only to find out that it didn't in fact fix the issue then have to submit another claim for a transmission replacement.

It will be covered because it’s a known powertrain issue that gets solved with a fluid change usually. Just ask the service advisor first.

I'm out of my OEM warranty. The one I have is aftermarket.

I agree that a slight wheel imbalance can cause a vibration that comes and goes. I think I have lost some wheel weights. I have a vibration in the steering wheel and floor that is inconsistent, though not bad.
