Who's to say you didn't command crazy timings, stupid lean lambdas that destroyed your engine, then flashed the stock tune back as if nothing had happened? If the car is tuned, you accepted that you pay to play.

In almost every case, this means if the engine throws a fit, there is no way to prove that it wasn't your tune, even if you know it, the burden of proof is on you, because you are no longer using the same product the manufacturer provided their warranty for. The Magnuson-Moss Act does not apply here. We're all rolling the dice with our tuned cars, if anything fails, it's on us to pay.
This is correct, but pretty much everyone I talked to about what happened with my engine all said the same thing.

60rwhp from mods and a tune does not blow 2 rods 2 pistons and crack a crank shaft.

The rods and pistons are more likley, but a cracked crankshaft is nearly unheard of at that power level. Look at your car... Did you replace the crankshaft with after market to run 700rwhp? I'm willing to be you did not? Now I cracked the crank shaft at about 460-470 rwhp, which is a far cry from what your car does. I just haven't had the best of luck with mods, and I've been paying for it ever since. Even now, my car ran great for 6 months after the rebuild, now it runs like shit above 3000 rpm and no one can tell me why. I've already blown over $1000 in diagnostic charges to try to find out why and yet still no answer. Maybe it is pure coincidence, but all of this started when I went with a roto-fab CAI to try to lower my IAT temps a bit. Car ran fine up to May 8th of 2024 and I've been trying to fix the problem since.

But ya, pay to play or don't play.

Sorry OP just frustrated with my situation.

For what it’s worth, you did the right thing my manning up and taking responsibility. You modded the car and you dealt with it. Trying to get that under warranty is not right so I applaud you for taking the high road.

For the record, your mods should have never broken the stock bottom end. I’m still on the stock LT1 crank…

$27k is crazy low, dealers are f&*(ing everyone on trades these days. I'm currently selling one of my cars on Cars and Bids rather than take their lowball offer.

It seems like a good idea to take the $53k as the car is worth much less, then buy another car, even if it's the same car. You could get the same car with a perfect carfax and put $12k in your pocket, or get something else. I still think Camaros are hard to beat for the price but if you have the cash a C8 should be attainable for msrp or less. A newer ZL1 1LE would also be a great choice. Hard sus, but that's easy to change. A Caddy CT5V would be fun too.

Newer cars are extremely complex and with DI, LSPI is a major issue that can quickly destroy a motor including cracking a crank. For me power gains aren't worth it unless I have the cash to do heads/cam from a reputable tuner, and another $20k in reserve I don't mind losing just in case.

I can't believe GM is willing to pay OP MSRP for his car, I've never heard of that on a car this old. No way they will be able to resell it for that money.

On the other hand I just turned 16k miles on my HWSE and can't help but wonder if I could sell it for more than I paid, $38k.

Well you know what I did, if not, when my 2020 engine blew, I sold it to the dealer on the spot.

No way do I take a car back with a full engine replacement.

Right?! I was surprised as well! I think those screenshots showing the inflated values of the hotwheels camaro + them looking at my previous purchase history with them really helped! Also, keep in mind, whenever they do a buyback, they are bound to take a loss, they can never recoup/get more money than the buyback offer. Btw, how did you get yours for 38k?!?! Window sticker shows mine to be $53k assuming we both have the 2SS with the 6 speed manual?

Also, as I have mentioned in my post, when I started a claim with GM, nowhere did I ask for a buyback, I thought it would be absurd asking them to buy something back that is 6 years old and not even under the 3/36 b2b warranty. I was merely asking for $3000ish reimbursement for my hotel flight etc etc that i had to swallow as a result of the car breaking down far from my hometown. I thought this post was important as it restores our faith in GM customer care service.....lots of Camaro and Corvette owners feel otherwise!

Curious as to why taking a car back with a new engine installed by the dealer is a bad thing.
