Pretty sure it was 2019. I was still at GM in early 2017 working on a number of things, including next gen Volt and derivatives of that. Reuss’s statements about an all-electric future came while I was working at my current company (I started there in 2018) but before COVID. I’m sure of that because I recall having “water-cooler conversations” about this at a time when we were coming in to the office everyday. We have been hybrid work schedule since coming back from COVID.

This is true. One of the things she was pushing for was one national fuel economy standard that all automakers could track to. Not one for California and another for the rest of the states. At the same time she was also advising against relaxing the fuel economy standards as was done with the SAFER act. The point being that automakers were already investing in tech to meet the previous standard. When SAFER was passed, GM was among several automakers who said “thanks, but we are going to commit to meeting the previous more stringent standard.” For the most part, most major automakers would prefer setting the standards with an acceptable amount of year over year improvement and leave us alone to figure out how to meet them. Stop moving the goalposts.

I got you beat. I was a B-Section student, which meant I did work section first, then school section. So I had not even started classes yet. I was about 3 weeks in when I took Buick Chief Engineer Lloyd Reuss’s car. My assignment was to get new digital radios installed and instrumented in cars, then test drive them and record the data. I tagged a black and silver Regal T-Type and had the radio installed and instrumented, then took it for the test drive. Stopped off for lunch. When I came back to the garage there were four guys in suits standing in the spot that I took the car from. In retrospect I am totally shocked that I didn’t get fired on the spot. Lloyd was really cool about it. Obviously, or my GM career would’ve ended before it began and you guys would not have the benefit(?) of my contributions here.

Years later I told Mark the story and he died laughing.

Guys, keep it clean, no directing insults at others… If anything political is mentioned, it needs to be directly associated with automotive conversation… Read the rules…

I’m not calling any out right now, but I will be cleaning it up… If it continues, this will go away…

October 2, 2017.

Granted fuel cells were mixed into the plan then, but GM signaled the move away from the ICE well before Biden came into the picture.....

https://electrek.co/2017/10/02/gm-el...nt-new-models/

2018 brought the news of Impala, Cruze, etc dying as a way to cut costs to fund the transition or convert plants over for EV production( Hamtramck).

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/26/gm-u...-quarters.html

The only other EV news I can find in regard to GM plans is January 2021 when they announced the 2035 goal.

I don't understand why you're sticking around... you talk about nothing but electric vehicles, various C8 trims, then try to spin GM and its CEO in the best possible light in many a post...

Of course everyone is free to post anything allowed by the rules, and it's not like traffic would be crazy , I just wonder why because I sure don't sign up to forums where I have no interest in the main subject...

I don't try to spin anything.

If I see wrong info to my knowledge posted, I will post to correct it. I would think anyone would want accurate info and not want to continue with misinformation. And I constantly see people post that think 2021 is when GM started down the road of all EV's and this was all a political plot by Biden, Obama, and/or the left forced upon GM.

Hate EV's all you want. I don't care. Just be accurate with your information.

And I am still here because I enjoy reading Martin's and Number 3's posts. They are insightful. I signed up because I did have a 2017 Camaro. I moved on, but doesn't mean I leave the community behind. I have mostly lurked given I don't have any current or accurate information for people who still have their 6th gen, so I can't be very helpful.

I see your point. That’s when he first used the term ”all-electric future”. In hindsight this does have to be considered the starting point.

When he first said this, the way we interpreted it was that GM was limiting its electrified options to only include EV and Fuel Cell (both are fully electric). This interpretation made sense, because GM was at the time cancelling all hybrid programs except C8. But it was still assumed that GM would continue to produce ICE vehicles. So their portfolio would be either EV/FCEV or ICE.

Then in 2019 he went a little further and said that GM was going all-electric and he clarified it to mean ICE was going to be phased out. Then in March 2020 they introduced Ultium and the direction was crystal clear. But, in hindsight, his 2017 statement could and probably be taken to mean where they ended up.

They are so ugly though, could grow on me later but they look like something that would come out of India or China with the weird frontend. A bit alien to me. Everything looks pretty decent nice side profile then BOOM that frontend.

Personally, I think the 7500 dollar credit should go away. No hit on you if you take it or whatever. I would also just needs to go.
