Manual trans oil and diff oil recommendations
This has likely been covered before, but I couldn't find the thread with a recent search.
For a ZLE that is frequently tracked (a dozen times a year), what M6 oil and what diff oil are you guys using? Thanks in advance! |

I used OEM in my car the whole time I've tracked it. But I'm in an SS1LE not ZLE. No issues on my end using those fluids.

I wonder if the OEM trans and diff fluid can cope as well with high temps as aftermarket products.

I've only had a chance to track once this year but I switched to Tremec's HPMTF for the trans and used OE for the diff.
I plan on tracking a few times a year but I plan on staying with those fluids. For the diff, I haven't been able to find any facts or see anyone say OE wouldn't hold up. I really like the Tremec fluid and it held up great all day at Mid-Ohio but it is not as smooth as OE when cold. First few miles when below 60f but then it is fine. |

I track at least 12-15 times each year, and I daily my car. Avg. 27k total miles per year. At least 3K of those miles are track miles and I'm at the faster end of the advanced/expert group. I use 15w50 Mobil 1 oil during the Spring and Summer time. Sept thru Nov I use 0W40. I always buy the two 5 Gallon jugs from Walmart at approximately $26/unit. I ignore the Dexos-2 crap since I drain frequently. The buildup that Dexos is supposed to fix is mainly for cars that sit and cars where the oil gets really dirty. For diff oil, I stick with ACDelco 10-4034 with the friction modifier additive. For transmission oil I also stick with ACDelco 10-4033 MTF and Transfer Case oil. (75W90) Car runs great with no issues. Diff oil only gets changed at the beginning of the season and at the halfway point as a precaution. When I drain it at the halfway point, it usually looks pretty good. So it can probably go the entire season. My car currently has just over 37k miles on it. I changed the MTF around 25k miles and the oil still looked relatively new. Last edited by NG329; 11-18-2024 at 07:45 PM. |

If anything looks fishy, maybe I'll preemptively change it for next season. There's a good chance I'll go 2650 Magnuson on this car if I don't buy the ZR1 or the 720s over the winter. So, the belt might actually come off anyways. I'll keep you posted. |

I also use the AC Delco fluids for both transmission and rear diff with approx 10 track events per year and no issues.

I'm a big Redline fan. They recommend D4 for our transmissions, and I used that last track season.
However, years ago with the 5th gens, there was an argument to be made for stepping up viscosity to the Redline MTL, or perhaps mixing 50/50 . . . particularly if you track and see higher heat and/or don't do much winter driving with the car. Anyone considered or tried going up viscosity with whatever brand they use? |

For trans, I use exclusively the Tremec HP-MTF

Yeah something about these Ediffs, they like the OEM fluid. My 2020 green 1le i had i used motule for a bit and it just didn't feel right. Could be mental but put the OEM fluid back in and it just felt better.

I just swapped mine out since I’ve done a lot of track ops this year.
AMSOIL ATF in the transmission AMSOIL severe gear 75w-90 in the diff Added about 3oz of AMSOIL limited slip additive. Think these will be ok? It’s a daily driver and track car.

Tremec HP-MTF. In TX the factory grade is too thin IMO for the hot conditions here. Grinding on downshifts before change. Trans temp regularly over 200F per session. If less than 180F then factory fluid probably ok. I change once a year.
For engine oil 15w-50 Mobil1. You'll see oil temps up to 280F. Cheap for a change before events and the formula was updated a couple of years ago to SP.
