Shaking/noise on accelerating... thoughts?
I'm at 95k miles on my 2017 2SS Camaro and I've noticed a lot of shaking/trouble when I'm going from 45 to 55 MPH and again at 65-75 MPH.
I dont know if its the transmission or the car needs a tune up (havent done one) but trying to isolate and troubleshoot the issue before bringing it into a shop. Has anyone noticed something similar? Is it transmission or a cyl misfire? To note, I dont notice the issue when I hammer it and I breeze by those MPH without much issue but it could be skipping or something.

I've had that happen from a shot cv joint. I wouldn't expect a cylinder misfire because that would likely be independent of speed ranges, although possibly higher in the RPM range, but you also said it doesn't do that when you hammer on it. Same with the transmission. It would likely be doing that for an entire gear, not just 10mph increments.
I'm guessing you have an automatic based on "when I hammer it and I breeze by those MPH without much issue but it could be skipping or something". The A8's are known for a shuddering issue caused by the torque converter fluid, but I'm not sure if it's intermittent like that. Last edited by tenargo57; 11-05-2024 at 01:31 PM. |

Sounds like the infamous A8 transmission shudder. Mine did the same thing at almost the same speeds. Feels like driving over small speed bumps.

Yea it's most likely the TC Shudder. I've had that happen.
Replace TC, Tune out AFM, you'll be fine going forward. |

Flush first. If problem persist flush once more for good measure. If problem persist, likely need a new torque converter for like $4k.
Flush cost me $120 for all the fluid, plus another $30 for the new filter. Takes some time since you need to get fully under the car, drain the pan, drop the pan, wipe the pan, reattach pan, and fill the pan. Then, spend 20 minutes with the car idling to get the trans fluid to around 130f, but no more than 140f, shift through the PRND holding for 3 seconds each (foot on brake!!), then go under the car while it's still on to drain the fluid through a small bolt near the front. Yeah, it's a process and a bit of a pain but $150 is way less than $4,000 (might be more now)

Depending on the type of vibration and if there is any noises along with it, check the axle shaft flange bolts at the differential connection. They have a tendency to come loose and back out on some models. This might not be your issue but it is worth checking as it seams to be fairly common on some models.
