I towed a car like that many years ago. About 1300 miles. I absolutely annihilated the car with rocks dirt gravel mud you name it. I would not do that again. Perhaps something enclosed or some sort of protection on the front of the car at least.

Did you not stay on paved roads? I will be on I-10 for most of my way.

Oh ok. Hopefully I won't have much weather to deal with. More concerned about rock chips on the front but it looks like I should be protected as the carrier appears to sit higher and out of the throw of rocks from the rear truck tires.

Thought about that but wasn't sure if it would leave glue on the clearcoat

I used 3M automotive masking tape when I picked up my ZL1. Protected it against rock chips and it comes right off with no residue.
Used 2 entire rolls on the front of the car.
