Oil filter confusion (still)

So, I posted about this in March. The amount of part numbers is ridiculous.

I ordered a PF64 filter on Amazon. The picture of it showed the same part # as listed in the High Performance Manual, 12640445. I just received the filter and this is what I got. Not happy about the Chinese or whatever it is. Could this be a knockoff? The filter looks like the real thing.

It's most likely the real thing, don't worry about the Korean and Japanese scripts.

The PF64 oil filter has seen a spectacular part number progression over the years, yours is the latest variant: 12640445 -> 12696048 -> 12706595 -> 25206377 -> 25206966

(GM even had two "non-successive" iterations with 19386865 -> 19419226, who knows why they keep changing a $5 part so much.)

Maybe stop over at Wallyworld and pick one up to compare the two? You can return it or have it for next time? Possibly take yours off the car (if it's same part) compare them if not too messy? That's why I said just pick up a new one. Just an idea.

PF64 = PF64, don't worry about the other part number as those change as suppliers change... As long as it is a legit PF64, you should be fine...

Its real, Delco went to that packaging design a few years ago. Probably for global cost savings.

Also, this happened a few years ago, but seems like improvements in design:

I got a PF64 in the same multilingual packaging last week, I'm sure it's good to go. Though a year or so ago I did return one because I did suspect it might have not been legit but I'm ok with it now.

Just to throw you a monkey wrench, I like the ACDelco PF63F. More filtering surface area and 22psi internal bypass valve pressure.

Doesn't the PF63E extend below the bottom of the oil pan or the brace in front of it? I don't recall how much taller that filter is compared to the PF64.

Can't find anyone complaining or comparing fake/counterfeit pf64 filters. That's a relief.
This is a pretty comprehensive comparison looking at the evolution of the pf63 including the change in packaging:

I think you are right and much of the reason the PF64 is shorter... Last thing I want is my oil filter being the "lowest point" and then hear something rub... Those oil filters aren't much thicker than a beer can, wouldn't take much to grind through one quickly leaving one hell of a snail trail in it's wake...

Nah. They're about 1" taller, and there's room. Crossbar is lower. Time and weather pending, I plan to do an oil change this weekend and should be able to snap a picture of it installed.

I run Delco filters with China writing (they all are that way now) on the daily, But the Camaro gets a K&N HP1017. I like the welded nut on the bottom... makes it easier to get off.
