AWE to Corsa Compatibility

Hi all,

I might pull the trigger on the Corsa variable valve system (just the mufflers) soon but I was wondering if there would be an issue connecting it to my current system. I have the AWE Track Edition x-pipe and axle back system

Thanks

Are you replacing just the axleback section of your catback setup? There should be no fitment issues as long as its cut in the right place. AWE pipes run basically same path as stock. Any work to correct fitment issues should be pretty minimal, if any at all.

Just the axle back. I also have the AWE x-pipe but it should be the same spot as the factory exhaust right? I would think that the Corsa system would bolt right up to it

Not AWE but I bolted Corsa NPP mufflers to a Borla X pipe with no issue. I will warn you that Corsa has problems with the valves rattling. They now provide service kits for the valves. Basically, the valve shaft develops end play over a short time and will rattle when closed.

I've got Stainless Works NPP mufflers and the valves didn't rattle before the cam but they sure do now. I don't think any brand has come out with immunity from it. Cammed engine or not.

Agree...Stock, Flowmaster, Corsa. All ended up doing it. The good thing about Corsa is their warranty and CS is pretty good. They now send out service kits for the gen 2 valve systems, but my mufflers have the gen 1 valves that are not serviceable which means the mufflers need replaced. Anybody buying the current NPP now gets the gen 2 valves. The service kit is basically a bolt and spring washer that keeps tension on the end of the valve shaft, so it doesn't rattle.

Man, I need to ask Stainless Works if they have something like that. You can really hear them chirp. It's a bummer, when they don't chirp the car really sounds mean.

I guess the springs aren’t a huge issue if Corsa sends the kit but it is an inconvenience. I like the idea of having the valves and being able to control the volume when you start up but I was looking at the Corsa extreme system as well. Is there a big difference between the valve version and the extreme in terms of sound?

I just put the sport muffler version on mine(Corsa sent to me at no charge) because I was tired of the valve issue. And it's in between the level of closed and open of the NPP. Actually, it sounds much better all around. It has that old school 5.0 sound part throttle, very minimal drone and not too loud. The extreme would be like the NPP open all the time which is LOUD. I have cat delete pipes with a resonated X.

If you are staying stock headers and cats, the Extreme would be ok. But if you plan on headers and/or catless down the road it will be way too loud.

Either way I don't think you will ever find a perfect valved exhaust. You are going to get a rattle/rasp over time with any of them just like stock. I have tried 3 different NPP axle backs. The Corsa is the best that I have experienced, but it still suffers the same fate. If you want to try the Corsa NPP, I'll sell you mine I took off for cheap. I have it listed in the FS section with pics. It's boxed up in the factory box with foam.

I would buy those off of you but I was looking to get the black tips. I already have headers and the catless pipes so it’s pretty loud haha. I think I’m going to play it safe and get the valve version. Just a note to anyone doing this…..the AWE axle back won’t work with the stock pipes. You’ll need a sleeve to connect the 3” awe axle back to the 2.75” oem pipes. I assume the Corsa will connect to my 3” AWE x-pipe without an adapter?

I am having fitment issues. I just picked up my system this past weekend and tried installing it but it won’t fit. My AWE X-pipe has a 3” OD and a 2 7/8 ID. The Corsa has a 2 7/8 OD and a 2 3/4 ID. I don’t think an adapter will work, right?
