The main bearings were worn through the babbitt, but the rod bearings were OK. the Main bearings were replaced and I went with a Katech pump along with a cam install.

Bad luck I guess, the car already has oil pump issues. Glad you you managed to fix it with minimum loss by avoiding a complete engine replacement.

I can't believe the oil filter was installed incorrectly. It can only be threaded one way. That is complete nonsense. And as far as the oil viscosity, it clearly states what to use on the track. I would hire a lawyer.

Just an FYI, I with my 2018 ZL1 I WAS having the oil pump worry, then I remembered, and I hope maybe this is the same for you now that I'm bringing it up. When I bought my car new, the dealer also had a powertrain warranty 10/100k no charge by Fidelity... Check your paperwork.

All loaded up and on its way to Jannetty Racing for voluntary surgery. I am outside of my warranty and I was not willing to wait and see if my oil pump would let go.

Spoke with Al over at Jannetty Racing a couple of weeks ago and setup the appointment to have the pump replaced with a Katech Pump.

Al was great to work with. He got right back to me with a very reasonable estimate considering they are removing the entire motor to ensure they do the job correctly.

I will be excited to get the car back and to drive it without the stress of damaging a 15-20k motor.

I think I my oil pump (2016 Camaro SS) may have failed. Was pulling into my garage last nite and the "low oil pressure" message came on while it was idling. The pressure showed about 10psi but went up as I pulled in. Checked it this morning, and it looks like there is no oil pressure.


For the SS model, how many shop hours are required to do the replacement? Do they have to pull the engine or is it easier to replace on the non-supercharged V8? New oil pump online price looks to be $187.00, is this correct?

Get a Katech pump, not a stock pump.

Pump has been replaced and all of my anxiety is gone. It is nice to be driving around and not being consumed with constantly looking at my oil pressure gauge.

Here is an internal picture of my pump. It looks perfect but you can clearly see the pivot point on the pump where the metal is thinned out to accept the pivot pin. I would say that is the week link where they break.

If I was you, I'd be thinking about doing some mods while it's apart to make that money worth while

It's already in the shop... Not sure I'd want to swap out the cam. Not sure what other mod's you can do while the oil pump / oil pickup tube are being fixed. My shop is estimating ~$3k if its the oil pump, ~$2k if its the oil pickup tube (there is an old tsb for 2016 SS models concerning the oil pan and pickup tube). If it's the pickup tube in my case, I wonder if it makes sense to just do the oil pump at the same time? I assume that GM has updated the pump since 2016?

Yes, the pumps have been updated a few times, but anything from 2019+ is safe.
