I explained the diagnosis to my Dealer, showed the cracked resonator and asked them to consider installing a permanent solution with resonators. My Dealer offered to replace the resonator with same GM Faurecia G4-4994 Resonator and I declined.

i seem to be having similar issues with no prevail..

i already replaced the resonator due to it going bad and cracking at the nipple, with a custom h-pipe + had the shop cut out the AFM valves and weld in a straight pipe in place of it.

i only notice this sound whilst in idle no matter cold/warm and up until 1,700-2,300 RPMs. i tried hitting the muffler with a rubber mallet to see if there was possibly something wedge/rattling but nothing and also tried holding the NPP valves/actuators and the sound didnt change..

(here is a video to show of what it sounds like so there is a better understanding) -- https://youtube.com/shorts/Epixm5XQIDU

Hello phxsec,

The source of the pinging noise could be from the engine.

Use a "mechanics stethoscope" to investigate.

I heard a similar ping only at idle from the exhaust and traced the sound to the upper oil pan and above the exhaust port on the passenger side of the engine.

The ping could be heard from the wheel wells.

GM Chevrolet replaced the engine to fix the issue.

thank you for the reply,

i will have to purchase myself one of those tools so i can attempt to track down the area of issue, hopefully i do not have to go down the route of getting the engine replaced as my aftermarket warranty ended at the beginning of this year.

do you have any information from the dealership when they replaced the motor on to what on the engine might've caused this or what the culprit was, possibly something that i could do to fix the issue instead of replacing the engine entirely?
