From limited seat time in a 1SS, the SS Camaros seem to be a very capable cars. But there is room for improvement if your normal driving tends toward 8, 9, or 10, perhaps a lot of that being subjective in nature.

Well this is my first sports car. I drove a 2001 Chevy s10 and I recently just turned 23 so I bought this. I’m driving it hard as hell because I’ve never been able too enjoy going hard on corners

I agree. I have a 2ss, no mag ride and to me the car is very comfy and smooth riding and handling as it is. So much better than my 2012 Mustang GT I traded in.

I might be in the minority in modern times, but the SS is a muscle car.

I didn't buy my SS for the handling and smooth riding. I bought it because I wanted a car fast in a straight line than many of the other cars on the road.

If I wanted something that handles better I would have saved up more and bought a used C7 instead.

To me the Camaro SS is a muscle car.

If you're going to spend thousands in mods I'd spend it on making it faster.

I've done a few track days in my 2ss without mag ride and i'll be straight up honest the car is more capable than i will ever ask it to be. i got to ride shotgun in it with a pro driver behind the wheel as part of a lesson and i was very impressed with it's capabilities when driven at the limit.

My advice is keep the car stock and spend money on driving school. The return on investment is much greater and will serve you the rest of your driving life.

Yes you should and can for $1000.

I have been there, though in the end I bought an SS. I added BMR adjustable end links. They are aluminum vs thin steel stock ones that you can bend with your bare hands! Not good!
So start with those for $329 front and rear. If you want to change the suspension I recommend the Bilstein B-14 Nordschliffe Nurburgring PSS sport suspension that WILL transform your car into a BMW or Audi feel. It cost $1099. The BMR links and the suspension for $1400 is "the best grand I ever spent". ❤️

Any other non suspension upgrade recommendations? Sorry if it’s a dumb question but id rather get any upgrades out of the way now before I have any kids.

I had KW on another car for 10 years.

Had to send struts in for repair 2x. While I cannot compare my ride quality and your ride quality because they were different cars, I will say that the customer service at KW is utterly clueless.

You take suspension apart for repair and send it to them, at considerable inconvenience (!!!) and they send it back still broken. You dont know that until you've already put it all back in.

They have what seems like high schools kids working the line. Its quite embarrassing. I will never use their products again. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

If you're 20-35 years old you will like their race track set ups for the street. You can get nice and low in most cars.

If you're older, or live in an city, DONT bother, unless they have a street comfort option. I got tired of slowing down over construction zones and causing a back up with KW's installed and making excuses to my passengers about the harsh ride.

Yes on smooth roads the car was a sled, but on urban or city roads, I coudnt drive fast at all. crash crash crash...

KW passive dampers are VASTLY inferior to GMs "magnaride". Primitive. Its one of the technologies that has made GM chassis among the best in the world, no matter the car you pit them against.

My 21 v6 suspension was to soft. I put b6 Bilsteins on it. That firmed the ride and improved the handling on any road. They raised the ride height at least .25" , that was a benefit for me., Bilsteins, non run flat summer tires, and 1.20 neg camber on the front made a big improvement from when it was new. Been this way for 40k miles.

I also have Bilstein street "coil overs" on another car (B12 kit I think they are called).

I can crash through any construction zone like its nothing. Its kinda amazing frankly.

Static height, no adjustment. Slightly lower than stock. My KW V3s were fully adjustable.

Yes they have more body roll than KWs (half the spring rate) but not much more roll and while its a busy ride its totally acceptable for city driving and the handling is incredible.

Highly recommended if you do regular city driving. But still nothing as sophisticated as magnaride.

I recently purchased the GM Suspension Lowering kit, but haven't installed it yet. I'm already running 1LE MRR replica wheels along with 1LE spec tires. I've heard from others that the overall handling will be noticeably improved.

It is a "muscle car" for sure depending on how you define the term, but it's also pushing more into the sports car category with its ride and handling performance compared to, say, the Challenger.

I didn't either. I bought my black 1SS near the end of 2016 because of the looks and performance, and it was the only manual transmission I could find in Texas. The next one was in Atlanta, Georgia.

It just so happened to have MRC as an option, and I'm dang glad it did.

True. But you're talking thousands of dollars more. The option of MRC on my 1SS I think was right around 1,700 bucks, and I've got the best of both worlds.

Knowing what I know now, and if I wanted one heck of a smooth ride along with the performance in a straight line, I'd pay that money today to make my SS ride better.

Shame the OP if he wanted, or any Camaro owner, can't pay to add that option in. It's that good. Since that's not possible I'd just dump all the money into making the motor scream as well.
