I'm too hanging on to my warranty for another year or so, then once it expires new pump and cam for sure.

I bounce in and out on the Corvette Forums, and really dont see the topic much discussed on that platform.

Do the LT4 Vette's have the same issue or not? are the C7's Dry sump ???

Not sure.
This pump is same as used in the 5.3 truck motor. Just google "5.3 oil pump failure" and you can see reports.
This thread has some techs going back-and-forth about a failure. You have to use "view source" to see their comments:

Video showing how this pump works:

Mine was extremely high at higher RPM's before the oil pressure dropped to 20.

Yes when I get home tomorrow from work I’ll take some pics. I work 24 hour shifts. I’ve taken it apart a few times.

As I understand it, the failure mode of the ring on these pumps starts to show reduced pressure as the crack initiates and begins to propagate. At that point, you see lower oil pressure.

For me, if I see it drop into the 20's, I'm driving it straight home and ordering all the parts for heads/cam/pump, etc. and I'll start pulling it apart.

I understand there is a chance it might fail catastrophically, too, but I think that chance is very low based on the empirical evidence we have between the forum and FB.

That's my strategy. It might not work for everyone, but I'm comfortable with it. I drive it every day. The pump will either get replaced when I do a cam in the next year or two, or it will get replaced if the pressure drops due to early failure signs.

If it fails and eats the block, then so be it, that's the risk I took (and I'll be getting a stout long block to replace it)

Same here... High and Low alarms on the oil pressure is a no-brainer...

Just another reason the Banks iDash is so bad-ass... and... also on-sale now at www.griffin-motorsports.com

It looks like my pump failed last nite. I own a 2016 Camaro SS. Can anyone advise me on the number of shop hours to remove/replace the oil pump on the SS model? Thanks. I'm in lake county illinois if anyone can also recommend a shop (or dealership) also. thanks. John

Final update:

made an appointment at Cordes Performance in Tempe AZ. They called a couple days prior to the appointment date to confirm the date I would be delivering my car to them. Dropped it off on November 20, for their start date of November 21. They told me should be done November 26 or 27th. The called on November 25 and advised the car was done and ready for pickup.

I picked up the car on November 26th. They provided my old oil pump and pictures of the car prior to, during and after the work was completed. They advised they took the car for a short drive, then put it back on the rack to check for oil leaks.

When I dropped the car off, noted several Corvettes, Camaros and other high performance cars in the lot. When I picked my car up there were three ZL1 1LE's in the lot. This is obviously the place to go in AZ for performance work on your car.

I can not speak highly enough of their work and the way they handle the job from start to finish. I want to thank the folks at the start of this thread that recommended them.

Looking forward to driving the car now!! When I got the car back home I am now at 3500 miles. Let the fun begin!!
