oil pump replacement

I have a 2017 ZL1 that just sits in my garage. Right about 3K miles. I don't drive it due to the oil pump issue. It is out of warranty and if the oil pump goes out I really don't want to spend thousands having the motor replaced or rebuilt.

I finally decided to spend the money and get the oil pump replaced. I had talked to a local dealership here in Tucson Az about 6 months ago and the service guy on the phone said about $1500 to do the job.

Well I called back today to make the appointment. Just to be on the safe side I asked the service guy how much. He said 17.5 hours book time to do the job, which came out to $4050.00 for the job out the door.

There is no way I am paying 4k to have the oil pump replaced. I will buy a lift and do it myself before I pay that kind of money for someone else to do it. Does anyone know a quality shop near Tucson that would be able to do the job??

The going rate is usually 3K plus to have someone do it.

If I were in your situation I would contact Cordes Performance in Tempe. I personally have not had any work performed there but I know a few people who have and they've been pretty happy.

Cordes is top notch, one of the best shops in the country.

$4K is pretty hard to justify for peace of mind alone.

Since you're out of warranty and, based on what you said, the car is essentially a 4000-pound paperweight, how about contacting a good shop and having them install a few power adders while they're in the engine anyway?

Cam, headers, E85, better supercharger, CAI, tune, you name it, many options to choose from at differing costs, and at the end of the day you'll have something to look forward to and enjoy.

I mean, seeing the oil pressure gauge and not having to fret about when it will dip into the low 20s is good, but having a few extra horses and a good trans tune will really make you smile and want to drive that amazing machine.

Just my 2 cents', it's your money and your car after all

Thanks!, I will call Cordes on Monday.

As far as adding a little extra..... appreciate the input, but I'm 70 years old, if I cant get it done with 650 HP, I really don't need to be doing it. ;-)

Keep us posted on the repair. I'm in the same situation as you. I'm waiting for warranty to expire and then replacing.

I had 2 quotes to replace the pump, they were 4k and 4.5k.
Unfortunately I was beyond just replacing a pump when it went.

My 2018 is sitting at 10,000 and I'm worried about the pump. I have warranty but don't really want the 20 year olds at the dealership tearing my car apart. Been trying to save to do a more comprehensive build so I get more bang for my buck.

More food for thought, the longer you wait for it to be repaired, the less skilled the mechanic is going to be on these cars since they're now out of production. I would trust a well known performance shop over the dealer but a performance shop isn't going to do it under warranty. Decisions, decisions...

Update,

Cordes is running about 6-8 weeks out, which I think is about average for a speed shop. They sent me a very complete quote which I signed and returned with a deposit. They were about $300.00 less then the dealership.

There engine has to come out or the front end has to be removed to get to the oil pump since it's located right on the front of the engine. Thats why the prices are so high just to do the work on $500-$600 part.
