I use the same style lift point. I've had the chassis 20" off the ground, at angles that make you go "WTF" and never had my jack slip. I also supported the car for three months setting those same pucks on jack stands. Pulled the entire engine and tranny out together in one shot sitting on those lift points. Never budged. I would never have even been under the car if I thought the car wasn't stable.

The tech absolutely had poor positioning on the jack, he barely had the lift point on the jack, and as he raised the car once the angle was too severe, the jack slipped off the lift point and the car fell fender first on to the jack causing that damage.

I have a buddy who is only alive today because we set our wheels under the car as an added safety measure in case of a jack stand failure. He was wrestling put his exhaust back together after replacing his clutch. Rear jack stand (Sears brand) failed likely due to side loading, (the shaft sheared the teeth all the way down) when that one failed the movement of the axle caused the second stand to be kicked out and the entire rear of the car fell on him. Frame hit the wheels and gave him a gap, only reason he survived. By the time we scrambled to get the jack under the car and pump it back up, there's no just no way he would've survived. We had to drag him out, take him to the hospital, he had a cracked sternum, some bruises/cuts on the front/back of his head, fractured elbow and wrist. Not to mention the mental distress.

Very few scenarios where a car falls on you and you just brush the dust off and walk away. This story smells of lies and I agree you should speak with legal counsel.

Regarding insurance rates, it does depend somewhat on the state, and while accident forgiveness is a thing for some insurance companies, it certainly isn't for the rest. In a world of algorithm's, employees often throw their hands in the air in front of customers saying "this is what the machine is telling me." A claim puts you in the system, it hardly matters who was at fault, the system only cares that your were "involved." Being involved moves you up the risk factor measurement and the algorithm takes this into account as well as the cost of the claim. As far as the devaluation of the car, only a legit appraisal will tell the tale, but insurance companies don't always care about what a care appraises for if it wasn't appraised by their agent.

This will end up in court if it's more than the car damage. There will be subrogation between the insurance carriers, especially if any injury comes to light (the mechanic allegedly under the car at the time). The next claim from the mechanic, if there wasn't actual physical injury, will be mental and emotional trauma.

It would be interesting to see the outcome. It's obvious how this happened. the lift pad has a crowned lower surface, and it's clear the pad of the jack was not centered and the car slid off due to 1) the lift pad crown, and 2) improper placement of the jack. The experts will argue in court, and I'll bet some blame will get assigned to both parties. ZL1addons will be pulled in for the design, but the OP will probably come out okay as he never told them to use the lift pads.

A. They use the oil I want (Pennzoil Platinum Plus).

B. The car stays on the ground.

C. Most importantly, I never leave the driver's seat.
The never gets lifted is a big deal. I agree with you!

Just performed my 24 2SS vert 6spd first oil change and rear diff fluid change at 600 miles using ZL-1 Add Ons and Race Ramp Wheel Cribs 12" Adjustable ((4 )six inch pieces). Yes, I chose to forego the dealer first free oil/filter change but the diff fluid change would've set me back about what it cost to shell out the diff fluid change labor/material. I'm in my 70s and it was a piece o' cake... to say nothing about the peace of mind cause I hate having anyone sitting in the driver's seat of my baby.

When I got their the owner of the shop told me me that the aftermarket jacking pucks were the cause.
I asked him did his guy use safety stands he said he didn't know he wasn't their when it happened.

Then proceeds to tell me he was going to take my car to a guy he knows to fix the car it's only cosmetic .😒.
Which I tell him uh no thanks it's going to the dealership . Im worried their's is alot of damage I hope they can repair it.

Where did you take it for the oil change?... Goofy Lube?
Let your insurance handle this, may need a whole new fender.

There are more than a few videos on YouTube of various pricey cars that techs fail to lift from the proper jack points on the chassis. It seems there’s just little or no proper training being done, especially at dealers by the manufacturers, on where and how to properly lift and jack these cars. Not just Alpha-chassis Camaros and Cadillacs - the C8 Corvette with its mid-engine weight transfer has seen its share of nightmare scenarios too.

It takes 5 minutes to simply look up the lift procedure in the factory service manual and these techs dont even want to do that if they’re not trained. Or better yet - don’t touch the f’n thing if you don’t know!

Better yet, let THIER insurance pay for a new fender and related repair work. At the body shop of YOUR choice.

.Well good news I got my car back from the autobody shop. I'm very happy with the great customer service and effort they did. They got my car done 3 days sooner than estimated and texted and called thru out the process with updates. I highly recommend Carrillo &sons and can't thank them enough for getting my camaro back right.
I even plan on taking my 72 chevelle to them for paint and body work.

Thank you all here on camaro6.com for the support and feedback.
At 49 lessoned learned and I'm off to buy race ramps and do my oil change from here out......

Looks good. But I have to ask. What's the shop doing about the damage done to your car? Or are you just eating it and chalking it up as lesson learned?
